AWESOME Hogs article!!!
It's posted on the newswire, but I had to chime in on this. It is a GREAT article, from top to bottom. Wow, I miss those days. The ancedotes about Riggins are hilarious, and the stuff about practicle jokes on Mosley and Manley is pricless. Those were the days.
The depressing part was their (not at all surprising) feelings about Snyder. We should fax a few thousand copies of this piece to Danny-boy. If he really wants to recpature the glory, he could start by embracing the guys who made the skins great. The Hogs should have an honorary section of seats given to them for every game if they want them. Seeing Jacoby, May, Starke, etc. at Fed EX would help get the vibe right. And if Danny loves the skins as much as he claims, he ought to do this, or something like this. Show some RESPECT!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the link again: A trip to Hog Heaven

There are parts of this article that almost bring tears to my eyes...
I usually like Simmons' articles but this is one of the greatest articles ever. Man what I'd give to have this back. |

ESPN page 2 article bout the hogs
How good was that article about the hogs? As much as I enjoyed reading that, I have to say it makes me sad that we will NEVER see a group of skins like that...not with Free Agency and with all the Leon's that exsist in football, and especially because of Snyder.
I can appreciate Dan Synder and his love of the skins, but I think he will never be a succesful owner, he just does not get it man...I don't have anything against the rich and famous, but the Skins and Gibbs for the longest time had always had a blue collar type of identity....Snyder has totally killed that. That is why WE ARE HORRIBLE at FedEx , that is why the Hogs do not like Snyder. The Skins are like Wal-Mart, or Microsoft, we are way to damn corporate. I still love this team, but that is how I see it... Last edited by gortiz; 01-24-2005 at 04:27 PM. Reason: spelling |

The fans are just as blue-collar as ever. My favorite sports memories are watching games in FedEx and RFK.

What a great article, I was laughing my ass off and about to cry at the same time!!! I agree that Danny boy should really see that article but from what I read in it, it sounded like the Hogs felt about the same way with Jack Kent Cooke. That really surprised me. I had always looked up to him because he gave us the Hogs, Riggo, Gibbs etc. I had never read anything negative about him.

The charging does keep some dedicated fans from coming, but think of how dedicated you have to be to pay the ridiculous prices Snyder charges to see the team you love.

I put up my post right before reading yours....I'm not gonna repeat myself, but I agree, I somehow wish Danny could see that article...
I can only imagine though that he would look at his revenue and say the hell with the hogs and the fans, we are making $$$. Do you think 10 years from now we will be able to read an article about Danny's skins and get all the same emotions and memories we get about the hogs, Riggo etc...??? I doubt it! |

Gibbs knew the hogs inside and out and found ways to overmatch them against anybody they would play. What I mean is they would lineup and just exploit a weak spot in a defense and the defense would be helpless against it. It was a thing of beauty.

I really enjoyed this article. But I have a few comments and questions.
First thing I would like to comment on is how just about everyone here said that Gibbs would not tolerate a player such as Moss and his antics, yet there was the story in this article which the Hogs stated that Gibbs and Co. would look the other way when it comes to Riggo. Kinda how Tice runs things out in Minnasota(sp) with Moss. From the article: "They glanced in the back and there was a groggy Riggins, lying on his back, his pants pulled down, peeing straight into the air all over himself. Gibbs and the poor coaching staff always looked the other way with Riggo, as long as he was coherent on Sundays, but this seemed a little much ... and yet the coaching staff never did anything. "They always looked the other way with him," said May. "It just wasn't Gibbs's nature to constantly battle with a player like that." Next, I think that not only should Snyder read this article, but so should Janson, Samules, Thomas, Dockery and whoever else wants to play on our o-line. I think that they hit the nail on the head with about how they not only were teammates but also buddies on and off the field. My question is this about FedEx Field, it seems that Snyder may be taking more heat than deserved. Correct me if I am wrong but didnt Jack Kent Cooke have the stadium built? Wasnt the name of the stadium Jack Kent Cooke Stadium? All Snyder did was rename the stadium to FedEx Field. Maybe the Redskins are under the curse of Jack Kent Cooke!!!

8588, I think you're dead on about FedEx. If anything, Snyder has made it better since he took over.
I think the Hogs are frustrated that things aren't what they once were for the Skins. They can't hold their head up high the way they once could when saying "We're Redskins" But even if the Skins had been more successful this past decade it would be close to impossible to replicate the camraderie the Hogs had. They're all kidding themselves if they think if they were playing in this era of free agency some of them wouldn't be taking offers elsewhere

I agree Smootsmack, but maybe we're getting some "core" players that want to stay even with free agency money calling them. Smoot has said that he wants to stay a Redskin but now sounds like he's already gone. Coach Gibbs sounds like they'll still try to keep him around. Lavar said he wants to be Redskin till the end and probably will be (although they did pay him to stick around).
But now we've got players like Antonio Pierce that is totally enthusiastic about re-signing with the Skins and says he wants to stay a Skin. Samuels is talking about restructuring his contract and says he wants to stay a Skin too!! That's the kind of players we need on this team and once we start winning again (hopefully next season) we'll have more players wanting to be Skins!!!
