Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)

I'm looking back over the last two weeks. Both against Pittsburgh and Carolina it looked like most of the roster mailed it in. Obviously, it's not true of everyone. RG3 and Morris always give it everything they have, and guys like Morgan, T Williams and Lunch Pail Logan also work hard every game. Tana worked hard to prove he's still the best WR on the roster, but now that we're in the toilet I don't expect peak performance from him. Defensively, I think London, Bowen, and Doughty all work hard every game.

So yeah, I think the rest of the starters and regular rotation guys have mailed it in for the season, at least to the extent it matters i.e. there's a guy or two who doesn't matter, like Niles Paul. Two very different games in a row we saw it, and today was at home in a true must win situation.

And then Mike says the rest of the season is really about evaluating talent, which isn't going to rally the troops IMHO

So why have the 2012 Redskins basically mailed it in as of week 9? Can't say I believe I know, want to hear from everybody...

And one more thing, this isn't meant to be a discussion about talent, though I realize if this thread goes on more than a couple pages talent will be discussed. Just that I'm asking a different question first: where's the effort, discipline, focus etc etc?

You think every starter you didn't mention has mailed it in?

On balance, yes. No extremes here. I'm not saying total lack of effort all game long. You know what I mean anyway, you're a smart dude.

I disagree with you then. You really think Chris Chester, Will Montgomery, Ryan Kerrigan, Lorenzo Alexander (just to name a few) have mailed it in?

Our offensive line was abused thoroughly yesterday, and I've never heard the Panthers d line heralded as anything special. Yeah, the oline mailed it in yesterday. Kerrigan has the strength and talent to beat most blockers one on one, but like most of the d line we're not seeing any explosion off the ball and our guys are getting blocked effectively one on one. The lack of explosion and push really evident. I watched replay video of Jenkins and Cofield just bumping up against o lineman, clearly not playing hard to create pressure.

Didn't see much out of Zoe yesterday. I noticed Riley had a down game from the trend he's been on.

So let me flip this: do you honestly see anything close to 100% by a majority of players over the last two weeks?

They didn't mail it in, but I believe they aren't as good as they appear to be.

Mind you, LL is pretty smart about this things and does break down game film. Also one of the ES insiders that has the scoop on the behind the scenes. When he says this, I tend to believe it.

LL ‏@HTTR24_7

Bothers me that 2 1/2 years in #Redskins can't run their base offense due to issues on the OL.. No excuse for that Imo.

LL ‏@HTTR24_7

Offense has to work on smoke and mirrors due to Oline. RT and LG not getting it done consistently enough

It would answer the question as to why we haven't run our normal offense for the most part.

Re: Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)

The team has mailed it in because their coach, mike shanahan has. They're just following his example. I didn't like the hire when it happened because shanahan was mediocre in Denver and I was tired of mediocrity. The fact is, the redskins are worse under shanahan then they've been in the Snyder era. Ginny and Snyder did a better job running this team than Allen and shanahan. And im by no means saying I want things to go back to the way they were. I'm just observing that, as bad as things were then, they're worse now. You can talk about "culture" all you want, and be right, but the results are damning. Shanahan has done nothing to earn a fourth season as head coach. He may be a master strategist, but he's a horrible in game head coach. Clock management is deplorable. He has to go. Bring in gruden.

I'm not sure, lets see after the bye against PHI and DAL. Today It did kinda look like a team and staff that had that defeat look and feel.

What are you talking about? Shanahan openly admitted defeat for the 2012 season in the post game presser.

Big hair is right. these past three year been the worst skins years imo maybe not as bad at spurriers but shanny is not the guy. We need a coach to motivate us and can use aFA as his tool more than just the draft

Goat - I dont think they are mailing it in, I think they just arent good enough. We can go up and down the roster, and the talent just isnt spread far enough. RG-3, ALMO, TW, a handful of injured guys, Forbath - money with the FG's. A few others.
WR - ehhh
O-line - been exposed last couple weeks - they were playing above their heads and now they are being exposed.
Secondary - do I need to even discuss that.
Dline - ehhhh
Riley/Fletcher - ehhhhh
I would like to believe that you could light a candle under this teams ass and it will respond - and its that easy. But Im afraid motivation only means so much - at some point you have to be better than the guy across from you.
We just arent good enough.

Re: Has the team mailed it in? (If so, why?)

I saw the entire offensive line get pushed around today. I saw Polumbus, Montgomery, Williams, and Lichtensteiger play pathetically. The Carolina defensive front just manhandled our o-line. It was sickening to watch. As a result, Griffin III got hit too much and sacked too much. Just terrible.
