3 Non-Star Players We Need To Step Up In 2013

I should preface this by defining who I define as non-star players. That list includes: Griff, Morris, Trent, Monty, Garcon, Fletcher, Rak, Kerrigan, etc.

The players I'm looking for here are guys that could seriously help the team by continuing to develop or showing improvement next season.

My 3:

Josh Morgan- felt we spent a little more than I would have liked in FA, and while he certainly had a lot of receptions, I'd like to see him targeted more next year, especially in the end zone.

Perry Riley- given the uncertainty regarding Fletch's future, and the likelihood that we will need to draft a quality replacement in the come years, it would be nice to see more steps forward next year so we aren't hunting for two ILB's. Personally thought he played well yesterday.

Josh Wilson- Was great in 2011, certainly showed less in 2012. If we plan on cutting DeAngelo, my guess is that we draft a CB early (I really like Poyer) and look at a cheaper option in FA. He really needs to step up on a secondary unit that needs much improvement.

Hankerson needs to stop dropping the ball at the worst times. Always seems to be drive-killing or in the end zone.

Meriweather needs to find a way to get on the field. His impact was huge for that one game he played.

Crawford needs to be our #1 return man and it would be great to see him step up his CB play too, maybe to be a possible starter in the future.

So your examples of non-star players are guys like Griff and Morris? I thought by non-star you meant a guy who starts, but could be performing better. Like a Tyler Polumbus for example.

As far as your list goes, maybe we already have Fletcher's replacement on the roster. I liked what I saw out of Keenan Robinson earlier this year before he got hurt.

Fair enough I was a little generous with my definition of stars. And isn't Robinson an OLB?

Speaking of non stars - wtf is up with Ryan Kerrigan?
He doesnt seem to know who has the ball and moves around like a pregnant albatross.

He got exposed against Seattle. Ran right at him and let him make a play against the option and he was beat down.

Contrary to belief Albatross do not get pregnant but spontaneously reproduce.

To answer thread question I would say Lumberjack. Although he played well filling in for Fred Davis, it would be nice to get more offensive TE production especially since FDs future on this team has not been secured.

Kerrigan is a nice player who plays with maximum effort and has his moments, but our talent evaluators screwed up again when we traded down from the #10 pick to take Kerrigan at #16 and get additional picks, one of which I believe turned into Hankerson. J.J. Watt was selected #11 and was there for the taking when our original pick came up. Epic fail.

But after 2011 you could have made a case for either one being better. We picked up a 2nd rounder which we promptly traded down, so its tough to gauge the value on the trade. Kerrigan has time to improve, and I believe he will next year.

When I saw Monty on the same list as Morris and Griff I wasn't sure if you were calling them stars or non-stars. Monty is alright, but he's not a world beater. In fact I'd list him as someone who could put in some work this offseason too.

And Keenan Robinson was playing inside this year, I do believe. I can't verify that though, so I might be wrong. As far as guys that need to step up, I'd put Robinson on this list if Fletcher retires.

My single request for this offseason is that Madieu Williams retire, or get released. He shouldn't be playing any more.

I think a lot of fans underestimate Monty. According to folks that know a heck of a lot more than us here, he was a very good lineman in 2012.

while I disagree with CUTTING HALL ...i do NOT disagree, at all, with drafting the best corner we can with our round 2 pick if one is there.
