The Redskins Offense
For the first three games the Redskins ran the ball effectively.... for the past four or five weeks the run game has been nonexistent... it's not like defenses are shutting it down.... let's be honest.... Gruden and McVeigh have deliberately gotten away from it....they purposefully have abandoned the running game.... why? Because their ability to coach and coordinate the offense is very bad....they are unfit to coach!!!!! This was never a problem under the Shanahan, Zorn, Gibbs, Schottenheimer, & Turner regimes.....

I've watched the games and then watched recordings of the games..even if the running backs are getting minimal gains on carries, the coaches still should be calling the run. the play calling is uncreative and amateurish....

Hog you are the voice of reason and I thank you. We had injuries along the oline, and we move the ball very well through the short to intermediate passing game. We need a C and help on the rite side. I honestly cannot remember many times during any of our games when I remember thinking "wtf run!" We seem to be moving the ball well through the air. Our run game is lacking, no doubt - but it is getting absolutely stuffed from the get go. Every time we snap the ball I hold my breath it isnt a god damned run because we pick up yard. |

Yeah, they deliberately abandoned the run...just like they deliberately sabotaged the strength and conditioning program to create more injuries, and unintentionally put the best QB on the field, and mistakenly signed a better kicker...O how I miss the glory days under Zorn with his mastery and swinging gateness... ![]() |

Re: The Redskins Offense
Well the title of this thread fits a stat I found as I was browsing around. Per Rotowire, 2015 NFL Team Offense Stats | RotoWire, the Skins have 4th most opportunities in the Redzone. I would not have guessed that. A couple more clicks on the headers and you find that we have the 2nd most redzone pass targets (2nd to NE) and the 12th most rushing attempts.
So I guess that means that we are in fact a pass first team, at least in the redzone. Time will tell if it pans out because right now we have the 28th most redzone fantasy points (yes I know that isn't the real football, but for comparison purposes, NE has 851 fantasy points and we have 550). |

Re: The Redskins Offense
more meaningless stats from Football Outsiders.
Our offense's weighted rank is 20th, with our passing offense being ranked 10th, and our rushing offense ranked 30th. Interestingly, according to them, FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | 2015 OFFENSE EFFICIENCY RATINGS, our opponents defenses rank the 3rd toughest. |

Re: The Redskins Offense
It's the defense's fault [/sarcasm]
All jokes aside, while not taking away anything from Cousins, we are in some trouble if he's the best thing on offense. That and the pass blocking. Our receivers are terrible and our running game/run blocking is non-existent. Matt Jones looks okay, but he fumbles. Morris is holding on to the ball, but can't seem to run past 3 yards. Hopefully this o-line can gel and get their act together in the run blocking aspect. And I hope Scot can get some good receivers in the offseason. Because right now it seems to be just Reed and Crowder (also he did have a drop last week as well).

Re: The Redskins Offense
Just like the defense, we're still a few players short on offense. We need a true stud #1 wr and a center that doesn't get pushed around. Morris is gone so we're going to need another back but we can get someone there in FA.
But a stud wr, a 6'3 guy that can go up and get a ball in traffic, that's really what we're missing. Hate drafting wr's high but Treadwell from Miss looks like an interesting player. |

Re: The Redskins Offense
I think the skins are experiencing an identity crisis on offense. Are they a short pass WC offense, a zone blocking team, a power running team? It seems they are trying to do a little of everything and not doing anything well.
Since the pass protection has been so good, maybe it would make sense to sprinkle in some draw plays. The game against the Saints should really let the offense open up, since the Saints cannot stop anyone.

Re: The Redskins Offense
I think the run success we had the first few games may have mislead us into unreasonable expectations. This is pretty much a brand new O line unit.
Besides Trent (who missed 1 game); long, leribeus, schref and moses did not start or play together last year. Cooley said 2 things yesterday: - Mcvay is absolutely calling every single play; and - While Callahan does not dictate the play calls, he helps preparing the weekly offensive game plan and Callahan likes to run out of 1 back sets, uses TE in run formations and doesnt like to run out of the I or strong formation = stud FB darrel young is getting very few snaps. The loss of Paul and Paulsen was a huge loss for the type of run game Callahan likes. Add to that our coaches collective inability to adjust scheme to personnel = trending to a historically bad run game. Ive never seen a 4 game stretch where any team has run for 51 yards or less. this is historically, record breaking bad. Coaches had the bye to "self critique" and come up with some new looks and I didnt see any change to the run game against NE. run out of the I, get DY in there, hell give DY the ball 5 times a game. Do something besides ask Reed and Carrier to be the point of attack (good call weeks ago 30 gut). stacks - good call on some draw plays, do something besides what we have been doing the past 5 games or so.

Re: The Redskins Offense
They can't run because teams are stacking the box, our passing game is hurting our running game

Someone should tell the Rams, Browns, Eagles, Cowboys, Dolphins, Jets, etc... That's they are doing it wrong then. Teams are not scared of thier passing attack either. Defense play the run similar on running downs and personnel like every other team. The biggest issue right now is execution. Matt Jones is still learning to be an NFL RB, and continues to bounce outside. Morris isn't a great fit for the power scheme, Lerib is the worse Center in the NFL right now, Long and Sherff are struggling with communication and 2nd level contact. Reed and Carrier both are below par run blockers. Watch the 22. I can add some Intel if need be in this thread. Most teams are playing A-Gap on us because Lerib can't execute the blocks. He's so worried about getting his blocks that most of his snaps are off target. Out of all the snaps on Sunday from shotgun. Only 7 of them hit Kirk in the sweet spot. Run game was more effective first 2 games because of Litch, and Lav. Don't be surprised to see the new Center we got starting against Carolina. Hard to have effective run game when the anchor of the Offensive Line is getting blown up most plays, so you try to run tosses and outside zone, but your TE blocking is just as bad. Has nothing to do with the passing attack. Teams play 8 man boxes against run personnel against every team. It's the main reason you see us not able to get yards against nickel packages as well.
