NASA not fazed by chipped shuttle tile

Good to hear things look ok.

What amazes me though is that they never took these precautions in the past. Stuff flies off the fuel tanks all the time, tiles get damaged, and nobody ever thought to inspect the shuttle once it was in orbit??

Re: NASA not fazed by chipped shuttle tile

Unfortunately we learn alot by mistakes and their mistakes cost lives. I think they did check last time but it was from a long ways away and the pics did not show all of the damage. Now they have more cameras on board and know to realy pay more attention to the condition of the tiles. Did you see the film of them hitting a bird. It looked like that pign that Johnson (I think it was him) hit with a pitch a couple of years ago. They did say that if their was any dout at all they would go out and check the shuttle for damage in space and make any repairs if needed.
