The coaching position requires as much sacrifice and dedication than the players.
Heck in any successful business, upper mgt works just as hard as the working class.
Gibbs slept in his office. What do you think would happen if he gave up when sleepy or if his tummy hurt? Good teams has work ethic that trickles down.

i wouldnt mind bringing Briles in, but he cant run everything on his own. We would need a strong d cordinator, someone who can bring him along. Someone who is known and respected in the lockeroom. We are losing alot vets and leadership out of the lockeroom this year.

If we brought Briles with a weak staff, I have no doubt it would be another Spurrier epic fail.

I'm sure Shanahan and his assistants put in a ton of hours. I highly doubt they show up at 9am and are out by 5pm. I just find that really hard to believe. They're just not getting it done on gameday. But I will not doubt their work ethic.

Ritchie Petibone, while he was DC under Gibbs never slept in his office. Yet he was one of the best at his craft. To me it's quality time working, not the amount of hours you're at the facility.

If there is any question or concern that the head coach would not be strong enough to be respected and looked upon as a disciplinarian, then this franchise doesn't need him. The coordinators can't appear to have more respect than the head coach. That's a setup for failure every time. A coach like Belichick, Gibbs, Parcells, or Schottenheimer succeeds/have succeeded because they are disciplinarians. It is clear who's in charge.

This passage from that article is pretty much all I needed to see to cement in my mind that Briles would flop at the pro level.

"We don't put too much pressure on quarterbacks to have to make reads and decipher defenses," said Kendal Briles, Baylor's passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. "We allow them to be comfortable and know where the ball should go in coverage instead of having to read a lot of things before a play. They're not having to read a lot of things on the run."

Art Briles said the less a quarterback has to think, the faster he can play.

"I think we're a little unique in that we do that," he said. "We try to ease the load on the quarterback. I've always felt like that guy has enough stuff going on without trying to slow him down. I'd rather free him up and let him play fast. He's got a lot on him already."

This also supports what John Keim has said repeatedly, that RG3 wasn't nearly as refined of a passer than some of his peers coming out of college who were in more 'pro-style' offenses and had to read pre-snap and post-snap coverages at the college level. He's clearly smart enough to get there and with a full offseason of reps and prep I'd anticipate a nice leap next year in his passing abilities, Briles would be a detriment to his development.

Agreed. That's why I'm rooting for Snyder to lean house at this point. Boot Shanahans tough guy Eastwood persona along with kyle to the curb, ban Haslett and his Jane lynch looking self from the property, and have a conversation with Burns that the new staff will replace him.

What will most likely happen- Snyder will do didily-squat. Too much garunteed money is probably promised that Mikes team will get another benefit of the doubt and be allowed to stay. Long enough for Robert to get hurt, further animosity and division in the locker room, Kyle will get a job on some team that needs an OC, and we will be even deeper in the hole with our dicks in our hands looking and feeling dumb.

Leaving most of us maddened by shanahan repeatin the same failed philophies and expecting different results.

If only the redskins HQ was close enough to picket before and after work, I swear I'd be there 2-3x's a week for myself and the entire redskin nation till Snyder grew a pair.

Sure he would flop if he took that same approach in the NFL. I would guess he's smarter than that.

A lot of this just comes down to coaching in college vs the pros. There's a lot of stuff you can get away with in college.
