Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
Gus Bradley also qualifies as a near no-brainer. It'd be smart and it would mesh with the philosophy McC is trying to build.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
I'm OK with it as well. Wade Phillips will probably keep his job in Denver, so he would be out of the running anyway. Gregg Williams probably wouldn't come back after what happened when Gibbs left, so I think this is the best choice. I don't believe the Redskins are in a position to hire someone who has never been a defensive coordinator before. Bradley has the experience and has had success. McCloughan will work his tail off to bring in the talent that Bradley needs to succeed. I really believe this is almost a no-brainer, because Gruden's job probably hinges on the success of this hire.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
Guys, did you listen at Cooley & Kevin's show from yesterday morning, just a few hours before the firing?
Cooley and Kevin | ESPN 980 I'm amazed by how accurate they are. Cooley has some pretty deep sources, and insights! They were saying it's not only a DC problem (in fact Cooley says we can do better at DC but Barry's scheme isn't the main problem) but also a defensive staff issue, because, among others things, DB coach let the DB room go completely dismantled, not coaching the guys into playing this defense as designed and as called. And a few hours after the show, pretty much exactly what they said needed to happen happened. Just wow! They either are pretty close to the decision makers, or effin football wizards!

Something in the coaching didn't help these guys play at their best level. Don't know what, because I wasn't mad at the effort. Missed tackles number way down, some stops being made despite the apparent lack of talent... You know what? With a little bit more talent, and the right coaching, we might have a pretty good D next year... Wouldn't bet on it, but with what we are hearing it's far from impossible.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
he did prior to getting a head coaching gig . . . and plenty of of other strong minded head coaches have gone back into coordinators . . . easier job and still tons of money . . . don't know for sure if he can, but he was a great 3-4 DC

Hi everyone....My first post so go easy on me. I am new here but been a fan of the team for 40 years and was a Season tix holder from 2009-2012.

Bradley's D since he left Seattle seems to be about on par with Haslett and Barry. Doesn't seem like a good solution to me. |

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
The defensive players/coaches really sounded like a total dysfunctional shit show. Whoever comes in here really has to roll up his sleeves and command respect from some of these clowns. Breeland seems like the guy that's leading the clown show. If it is in fact Bradley then does that mean we're going back to the 4-3 full time/ base defense?

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
If we have no talent on D next year we are in trouble anyways. Bradley can work with the type of talent SM likely beings in so I will be ok with that. I also like a HC that drops back down to DC as long as he can get along with Gruden which i dont think is an issue. I think they often get a wider perspective and it enhances there effectiveness as a DC.
