Skins select DT Anthony Montgomery

From ESPN Insider:

Anthony Montgomery
DT | (6'5", 301, 6.3) | MINNESOTA

Strengths:
Possesses good size and flashes the ability to hold ground when teams run at him. Uses hands fairly well and flashes the ability to shed blocks quickly. Is tall, has long arms and can get hands up in passing windows. Lost a considerable amount of weight during 2005 off-season and had strong senior season.

Weaknesses: Montgomery's potential is limited by his lack of explosiveness. Doesn't have very a quick first step and isn't going to make a lot of plays in the backfield. Lacks ideal upper body strength, doesn't deliver a violent punch and has problems maintaining separation from blockers. Doesn't have great range and isn't going to make many plays in pursuit. Lacks closing speed and doesn't show a variety of pass rush moves.

Overall: Montgomery has the size and athletic ability to develop into an adequate backup but he offers little as a pass rusher and needs to get stronger as a run defender.

Dont like the fact we are making a pick from the oh so great Minnesota D, and he only had 8 sacks, total, not feeling this guy at all.

No offense to Gibbs and Co...but I typically dont trust their picks past the 3rd round. This guy looks like a Big NT. Hopefully Williams saw somethign he liked and could groom.

Clearly I wanted us to get Maxey, and groom his physical tools into our nickel corner. But I agree DT was a bigger need. Im just really pissed they didnt trade up and get Orien Harris, a guy that was there late and should have gone early. As opposed to a guy that isnt even rated on many sites...

Can we really second guess Greg Blache?

I think he'll be an average back up and maybe hold blockers to fee up linebackers to do what they do.

Rodrique Wright and Babatunde Oshinowo were still available too.

How does this sound?

"Extremely talented, Anthony Montgomery is a terrific run stopper with excellent upside as a pass rusher. He has first round level talent, but because of his inconsistency getting to the quarterback, he is something closer to a second or third round quality player. With the right coaching, Montgomery could be a very good, even dominant player in the NFL. However, he needs someone who can correct his pass rushing mechanics before he ever reaches that level. He is certaintly capable of improving a team's run defense, and would be an excellent selection for a team like the Cincinnati Bengals, who have struggled in that department. "

whered you find that? Thats a very positive review, and we have the coaches in place...
I dont know anything about him and have only found mixed reviews. Granted in the 5th round. But I feel better after reading that review.

Serious! Blache has worked magic in CHI and with a few bums that we've had (and still do) on our roster.

Feel better after reading that post that Davy put out there. Seems like this year and last year have been all Defense.

Eh...I think our D-line has sucked and C.Grffin has been the only one worth keeping. He brough us Daniels and I dont think hes panned out. One great game isnt worth being a 16 game starter. Im glad we went and got an end in free agency. Im sure this rookie will get playing time
