Willie Roaf retires

Man, what impact will this have on the Chiefs running game?

Ouch, that will definitely hurt their running game.

Re: Willie Roaf retires

I know a lot of fantasy people will jump all over Larry Johnson with the #1 pick, if I had a #1 I might not go that way, even before this news. I think Tomlinson is still the safest pick.

Re: Willie Roaf retires

I had a feeling that KC's offense would really sputter this year, mainly cause the line is old & due to breakdown, but I didn't think it would be in part because of retirement.

1000% agreed. LT was and still is my #1.

Re: Willie Roaf retires

is this serious or just a ploy to get out of training camp? if serious, the chiefs offense is going to have alot of issues

Speaking of fantasy football, we still need 1 more player in the Warpath pay league...

The guy who this hurts the most isn't LJ, its Tony Gonzalez. When Jordan Black was starting last year, they kept Gonzo in more often to help with the rush end. His stats are definately going to take a hit without Roaf. Team should be fine though. Black has expierence and LJ will still have many of the same running lanes he had before.

Excellent point. Remember as well that John Welbourne has retired, leaving the starters (on paper) to be Black and Kyle Turley. Turley, as you all may recall, missed games these past few years with severe neck injuries and a public and bitter fued with his head coach, who alleged that Turley threatened him with physical harm (roid rage, anyone?). Turley had lost a lot of weight to return to the NFL as a TE, and is trying to bulk back up to play tackle.

Seems like Saunders got out at the right time.

Re: Willie Roaf retires

That's a huge loss. If he thought he was going to retire, why would he not do it sooner? He's a huge part of that team and their whole philosophy. He's one of the best tackles in the league, without him, they could be screwed. This close to training camp is no time to hang it up. That just seems wrong.

Unfortunately for him, I bet it had something to do with Saunders leaving.

He could always rejoin Saunders here later, perhaps.
