I like Ginn!
Unless the top 3 lineman in which we have to pick from are bonified game changers, in other words the one we pick has to be special, he has to be able to change the coarse of a game, he cannot be just average or servicable, from the end position he has to be able to give us 12 plus sacks a year, from the line position [Branch] he has to be able to collapse the pocket consistantly, and draw a contstant double team, I haven't really seen enough film to make that judgement on any of them, maybe they can and maybe they can't but we better make sure we are not taken a player with the 6th pick who isn't going to do much more than eat space, which can be had later in the draft or is currently on the roster.
Which bring's me to Ginn, this guy is a phenomenal athlete, although he is a little raw as a reciever I don't want him as a reciever, I saw on a clip that he played CB in high school and he has hinted that he would like to play CB again, this kid could be the next Daryl Green his return skills are off the charts, I do believe he's been clocked in the 4.29 range. If we trade down once, maybe twice, he would still be available between 10 to 15 and we could snag 1, maybe 2, 2nd rd picks. I know that the consenses is to take the D-lineman, but I find it hard to believe that any of the top lineman can impact the game like this kid, he has the potential to be a lockdown CB which we may need more than a D-lineman, and he could be this year's Devin Hester who can stay on the field, he is a better ball player over all than Hester regardless of where you play him. But I still want to see if any of these lineman are bonified. Let's not get caught up in picking a lineman because of need and really not filling that need talent wise and come to find out next year we still need a pass rusher that happens all to often with a lot of these lineman, I would suggest to the Skins coaching staff to bring him in for a private workout and see if he shows the kind of coverage skills needed to succeed in the NFL, or can he be taught like Green was? Something tells me this kid is the sleeper in this draft if used properly! |

Re: I like Ginn!
I still think we need to go with need. If all three linemen are gone, I think we need to work our asses off to trade down, if not, I guess we'd have to go with the best avalible player, which could be Ginn at that point. We already have one game changer at wide reciver, and enough game changers on the offense as a whole. I'm convinced that this offense can be competitive enough (as long as Jason continues to progress in the manner that he has) to win a championship. Our defense is nowhere close to being where they need to be, so I think we HAVE to go defense. Ginn is also good on specials, but that was another one of our few bright spots, so I really don't see much room for him. Just my opinion though.

Re: I like Ginn!
this is a little rediculous, if he could be a shutdown corner than he never would have been a reciever at Ohio state, recievers are much easier to come by than a shut down corner

Re: I like Ginn!
Personally I'm starting to like Jamaal Anderson. First of all Anderson is young at 21 years old. He played against elite competition in the SEC (13.5 sacks), hes athletic (played WR in high school), and hes very raw coming out of college (a la Sean Taylor). This is your defensive game changer. Plus he'll be available when we pick.
1. Oak - JaMarcus Russell 2. Det - Joe Thomas 3. Cle - Brady Quinn 4. TB - C. Johnson 5. Ari - Levi Jones

Re: I like Ginn!
I'm not going to piss on a suggestion to move a physical speciman like Ginn to CB, but I really don't want to be using a first rounder on a guy that we are just going to convert anyway.
This seems like a plausible day two move, and obviously would have to be with a player who isn't Ted Ginn.

Re: I like Ginn!
why do people on this board insist on trying to convert players to different positions? if it was that easy, everyone would do it

A persistant pass rush and the ability to collapse the pocket will help a defense more than a strong secondary without a decent D-line. Assuming he isn't asking for anything astronomical, Nate Clements, a healthy Springs, Sean Taylor, and Carlos Rogers will look a whole lot better when they can depend on a front four who can rattle the quarterback. |
