Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
well his freaking range is like 48 yards. he made a 50 or 52 yarder once but its a crime that a kickers range in the nfl is 48 yards. another thing just common knowledge tells you that the closer you get to you range the more you will miss so if he isnt consistantly making 40 some yarders then we are in trouble. gives us very little room for error.

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
suisham did okay this year but he needs to get more consistent with the 45 yarders and in and get longer on the kickoffs. i think we need to bring in competition this pre-season, it doesnt hurt and might make suisham better in the process.
this has been said before, the better nfl kickers get more oppotunities 50 yards and out then suisham so comparing accuracy stats is alil skewed. anybody know how many 50 yd plus field goals attempts the better nfl kickers tried this year compared to shazaams 2? go skins! |

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
Well if we have a chance to bring in a better kicker than Suisham I`m all for it but you guys are comparing him to people who play for other teams! Do you compare Jason Campbell to Peyton Manning or the alternative, which is probably Rex Grossman. That's not good enough. There are better kickers out there, they just aren't signed with us. Getting a good kicker is not so easy, as the last 15 years of our franchise prove.

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
Obviously, it would have been great if he could have iced that kick. Still, I've never understood the hate (mostly from Cowboy fans?) for Suisham. He's turned out to be consistently decent, which, on a team in dire need of stability, ain't too shabby. I would like for him to get some distance on kickoffs (as mentioned above) or pick up a kick-off expert who could also step in if we needed a miracle 55 yarder.
Amy Winehouse wants him gone?

up until that point, I was pleased with him, I'd be lying if i weren't concerned about his psyche.

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
You can't judge a kicker on one kick. Even the great ones miss chip shots from time to time. Overall Suisham is pretty solid. Given the mess our kicking situation has been for years now we should be pleased with his performance this year.

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
You summed up my exact thoughts. Suisham is not great, but he's the best kicker we've had since Chip Lohmiller.

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
I still don't understand this thinking that Suisham needs competition in camp.
He was 29/35 (29 FGs was tied for 5th best in the NFL) and was 14th in the NFL in scoring with 116 points. And for that he needs to be challenged for his job?? |

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
Adam Vinatieri was 23/29 on FG's this year, 6 misses like Suisham but in 6 fewer attempts as well. He also missed a 29 yarder to lose a game for the colts in week 11. He finished tied for 11th in points with 118, two more than Suisham's 116. I doubt most on here would say a guy like Vinatieri needed some competition in camp. Just some more perspective.

Re: This puts our kicker into perspective
i stand corrected, norwood did not make the pro-bowl in '91, in fact, he was pretty bad (63%) that year.
My thoughts on why I'd like to see a kicking competition (this may lack sense/merit): As for Suisham, the need for competition arises anytime you have a kicker that misses a relatively "easy" clutch kick (just like when a closer in baseball blows a 3 run lead in the 9th, if your name ain't Rivera, you are likely going to get some heat). Had Suisham been attempting a 45+ yard field goal, I think people are more apt to give him the benefit of the doubt, but a 30 yard kick is supposed to be automatic (as is a 3 run lead). Because he is not a vet, and therefore has not been around long enough to demonstrate his mental ability to bounce back from a missed playoff kick, we have to be prepared for what could be a less reliable Suisham in 2008....
