ESPN's NFL Live: Monk should be in the HOF

they were just talking about the new candidates for the Hall Of Fame & said that Art Monk should already be in.

No disagreements here. I think it's a joke he's not.

I agree. Unfortunatley, I dont think he'll get in for at least another few years, because of all the first ballot guys that are coming up. The day he goes in, will be the first time I'll actually watch the hall of fame ceremony.

The guy held a couple records when he retired! No reason why he shouldn't be in the HOF.

OT: Anyone else notice they let Jerry Rice have Steve Largent's #80?

This is pretty werid if you ask me, Art Monk was with the redskins from 1980-1993. I may be wrong but wasn't Norv Turner in his first year as a head coach when we let Monk go? Fastforward to the present and Norv is out in Oakland and look who gets let go, Jerry Rice another vet from the 80's. I am begining to think that Norv doesnt like the older proven recievers and wants young talent of which he can not find if his life depended on it.

John Konoza (the statistician for 106.7WJFK) got me an autographed picture of Monk the night he set the record.

It is a travesty that he is not in the HOF. I for my life don't understand why there is even a discussion about it. Anyone who can look at his career know he should have been a first ballot HOF. When he retired he was arguably the second best reciever in history. Of course since then he has been passed by on multiple records but this is a different era. It is shameful that he is not in and it is shameful that no one will make a big deal out of it.

It's a f-in joke. How can a guy who held the all time receptions record not be in the hall of fame while guys like James Lofton get in ahead of him? The one's responsible for Monk not being in the hall are the 2 jackass SI writers Peter King & Paul Zimmerman. Those two make it a personal mission every year to keep Monk out for some reason. I don't see how he will ever get in as long as those two big mouths have a say in it...

What the hell did Peter King or Paul Zimmerman ever do to deserve to keep someone like that out of the hall of fame. Fire both those assclowns, cause its a freaking sin that this guy isnt in.

I don't know if Irvin is a first ballot HOFer, but there's probably no way he doesn't get in soon.

Monk probably won't make it. Teams never feared Monk, or tried to take him out of the gameplan. He quietly moved the chains and was an integral part of our SB successes but the more dangerous receivers always lined up opposite Monk, like Gary Clark or Charlie Brown. He was extremely solid, definitely a great Redskin, but if you go by stats or reputation Monk is just not quite there. I don't think it's going to happen for Monk, he was just never the driving force for us on offense, but that's not to minimize his contribution to the Redskins because the guy was fantastic for us. But if he played for any other team would we even know who he was? Quiet, unassuming, dependable but where did he stand out?

When DG comes up next year he's a first ballot HOFer. Monk, he may get in eventually but I wouldn't count on it.
