Sounds like he's being prepped to take over from Gibbs once Gibbs leaves in a few seasons. I'm very glad he has emphasized his commitment to bringing continuity to the Washington franchise.

And hopefully we'll be a lot healthier next year.

Throw in a pass rushing DE or another monster DT to pair up with Griffin and the D should be even scarier.

sounds so good hearing this talk about continuity. really sounds like Gibbs is getting everyone on the same page, i mean obviously the Skins are more than just an NFL team to him. he's getting to players like Smoot and Arrington and looks like he got to Williams too. so glad he's back.

Sounds like Williams is committed to this team for the long haul. I have no doubt that he will be here as long as Gibbs is here, and Gibbs has said he intends to honor the full five years of his contract. This is another sign that Gibbs has brought stability to the Redskins organization, and that has been this team's most glaring shortcoming over the past five years.

I would expect and hope for Williams to take over as head coach if Gibbs retires before the five years is up, and hopefully, Williams will be a better head coach than he was in Buffalo, after having learned from Gibbs. I know that didn't help Petitbon much, but Petitbon had never been an NFL head coach. Williams has the double benefit of knowing what he did wrong in Buffalo, and seeing what Gibbs is doing right in Washington.

But in the meantime, Williams is enjoying his role as defensive assistant head coach, and is doing an amazing job with this group of players, especially considering the injuries he has been dealt. With a healthy LaVar, Daniels and Bowen, this defense would be downright terrifying to opposing offenses-- as if they aren't already. Throw in another good free agent or draft pick on the defensive line, and there's no limit to what this defense could accomplish.

Just a quick comment on Petitbon, he really didn't get a fair shake here. He took over an aging team that Gibbs knew was on the decline.

Granted the team played pretty bad that year, but one season? I wish they would have given him at least another season to try to turn things around. But I guess when you follow in the footsteps of someone like Gibbs, patience was running thin in the front office.

Overall I think Petitbon really got shafted.

I hate to look so far ahead, but if the scenario of Williams taking over for Gibbs plays out, I hope this time around we give him a honest shot, and not just one and done.

Bradshaw called this a young mans game, but it's still a old mans call. What I mean by that is these young coaches are just bouncing around from team to team. Never staying longer than the teams success lasts.

Great teams are not built in 1 or 2 seasons. Players need coaches that are going to be there year in & year out. Pushing the system to the point of no return. With Gibbs & Williams as the core this Skins team is only gonna get better. For once I am not so worried about the players sticking around for the long haul. I know we have the coaches to teach the right system for success.

It makes me proud to say I'm a redskins fan!!!

A defensive coordinator that will last more than a year? Now that is a new concept. Cant imagine what the D will look like next year. Now if only the O will do something.

Very well could be.

I always thought it was kinda strange Petitbon didn't take another job somewhere else. It's hard to believe nobody would have been interested in hiring him as their defensive coordinator considering his track record.

Maybe he just had enough of coaching in general.

On that note, I remember reading an article in the preseason from Lavar. He was asked about the D, and how much fun it was going to be. When asked about the O, he said he felt bad for those guys, because they have SO MUCH to absorb. The O will come in time, just like Gibbs first go around. The D will get better. It will be scary, and I'm pretty damn excited about the prospect of continuity. Bradshaw will be eating his words again.

Yeah, thank God Gibb's got Williams to join the band. With all the talk about Brunnel, we all have to agree that Gibb's hit a home run on that one!
