So if we fire Brooks....who's taking his place? Please don't say Froste. I'm not even sure if he is available but he was no better during game time. He always looked good in preseason but screwed up during the season.

Unless there's someone out there on the street that can do better I think you've gotta ride it out with the kid.

Smoot would have lost his footing and fell into the WR for pass interference (or just not have been there at all).

We have to make a change, the skins are playing close games with a small window for error. Brooks shanks way too many, when he arguably has the easiest job in the NFL,

Ok so who do we sign? I'm all for making a change if there's someone out there, but let's hear some possible names.

What is the rokie learning curve for a punter? They snap him the ball and he punts it away so I don't see any learning curve in that. I said all along that Frost earned the spot in preseason but we let him go. Yes, Frost had shanked some punts but over the past year has improved.

It's not the easiest job in the NFL. If it were easy then there would be a glut of great punters all over the place. But the fact is there are only 32 of these jobs and there are not even enough good punters to fill them. There is no consistently good punter sitting out there on the steet right now. And if a punter comes into Redskins Park today and punts 20 straight booming 50 yard punts that doesn't mean he is going to do the same thing under game conditions for the next 10 weeks.

We drafted this kid to be the punter for the next decade...lets not give up after 6 weeks and restart the parade of retreads that we have been going through for the last 15 years. And as frustrating as his kicks are those of us at the game should hold back our boos because booing him is obviously not helping him improve.

There's a learning curve with everything. It's just naive to think that punting is a simple job. Otherwise what would explain all the rookie punters that are flops in the NFL? If it's a simple job with no learning curve, all rookie punters should make the transition to the NFL with no problem at all, right?

Well of corse its not that easy I just don't get a learning curve for a punter. Yes the game is faster but for the most part Brooks has not been under a ton of preasure when hitting these bad punts.

On his show, Vinny C said that there will be a new punter this coming Sunday.

Re: The Official Cut Durant Brooks Thread

I love how people claim that punting is the easiest job in the world. There are 32 teams and how many have great punters. There are 100s of punters coming out of college every year, so every team should have a great punter according to the 'easiest job in the NFL' theory. Yet many teams are always searching for a better punter.

Right now I don't see any option but to stick with Durant and see if he can work thru it. I think coaching is a big part of it also, so maybe they need to change what they are doing or get a new coach to work with him.

Well he's old and, from what I hear, kind of a jerk but I'd give Todd Sauerbrun a call to at least come in and compete. Or how about Ken Debauche, former Badger? He was pretty highly ranked along with Brooks in last year's draft. I don't think he's anywhere right now.

Ok again, if there's no learning curve why don't all college punters make an easy transition to the pros?

I think it's pretty much a moot point now, the kid looks like he's gone.
