If that is the case then why did he leave 5 mil and a possible extension worth 20+ more millions on the table last year? It seems to me that someone in it for the money would not have turned down that kind of cash. Joe Gibbs turned down countless opportunities to return to coaching over the years and only came back when the Redskins asked him too.
YES! You are correct

I think the money was the final factor that drew Gibbs back out of retirement. I'm sure 1 or 2 million and Gibbs would have never left his racing team, 3 million HMMMM, 4 to 5 By George Snyder we have a deal and then he lets out that quirky laugh.

Gibbs (and others such as Williams) put in countless hours at the office and on the road to revive a sinking franchise while his 3-year old grandson was fighting for his life. There's no coward there.

So the people on this board side with Gibbs, that's how it should be. This is a Redskins' fan site and Joe Gibbs has done more for this franchise than Arrington ever hoped to accomplish. Arrington's career was, for all intents, a failure and he can blame others but he shouldn't forget to look in the mirror either. Gibbs has coached hundred of players in the NFL and Arrington is the only one who has said something bad about him. Maybe Arrington should think about that.
Great post! Extremely wrong and stupid comment by LA.

Of course not, but when you turn up an ass the next day, Redskin fans - any fans - will call you on it. It's our job.

My opinion (if it could be seen by any of you without being blocked), he couldn't have screwed himself more with those comments. He's a face in DC, and someone we've grown to love and respect over time. So don't talk bad about Gibbs who is a GOD in DC. Stupid, stupid, stupid... bad move LaVar.

You know, I had a response going, but realized I'm no good in this thread. After sitting through 4 Super Bowls and 12 years of mind-blowing, pre-Levar, fandom, i can't offer up reason here. I'd drive Joe's white Bronco if he ever called in a jam.

alright, I'll sit down now. peace out.

Re: Lavar Arrington calls Joe Gibbs a Coward

Pretty good take on this here:

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

Thanks for your patience today while I was flying home from the mothership in Bristol. In trying to play catch up, the NFC Beast came across this LaVar Arrington story in the Washington Times.

Arrington was kind enough to wait until Cowboys week to publicly rip his former coach, Joe Gibbs, and Redskins owner Dan Snyder. The former Redskins linebacker left the organization in Feb. 2006, and apparently he's been needing to get some things off his chest.

"I called Joe Gibbs a coward for leaving," Arrington told the Times. "You came in, you made some money for your NASCAR team. No one else is going to say that. I'm sure more people thought I was a [jerk] for saying that. Joe wouldn't call me because he knows. There are a lot of people who know the truth about what went down with me and the Redskins."

LaVar, maybe no one else is willing to say it because they don't want to sound like a complete idiot. Gibbs said he was walking away from football after the 2007 season, in part, because he wanted to spend more time with his sick grandson. Call me gullible, but I'm going to take Gibbs' word on this one. I think Sean Taylor's death and the subsequent playoff run had a draining effect on him, and he didn't have the energy anymore. And that's why "coward" is the last word I'd use to describe him.

I feel bad for Arrington that his promising career was cut short by an injury. But to say those types of things about one of the most respected men in the history of the league is gutless.

But Arrington didn't stop there. He's also upset that Snyder didn't make enough small talk with him at a team event.

"I think Dan Snyder is scared to death of me," said Arrington. "He won't look at me. I tried to shake his hand at a luncheon. He shook my hand and was like, 'How you doing, LaVar?' and kept moving. I'm probably the only person that's ever stood up to him and never backed down."

Folks, let's take a moment to praise this brave, brave man for not backing down to Snyder. What a joke.

I loved Arrington as a Redskin, but his ability to revise history is remarkable. Not only did he back down to Snyder, to the tune of $4 million to get his release, but he also got jerked out of a $6.5 million bonus because of a mistake his agent made. Way to make your stand LaVar!

LaVar Arrington, where bitterness happens...

He had a motorcycle accident (which might have been dumb) but other than that its not like Lavar just threw his career away like maybe Pacman.
Agreed. Gibbs isn't to blame for LaVar's career ending and really neither is Gregg Williams. LaVar should've played along with Gregg's scheme, but Gregg knew coming in that our star defensive player wasn't that type of guy. Would've loved to have seen the guy establish a longer career, but sometimes that's how the cookie crumbles. I know that he had a lot of love for the Washington area and the Redskins as a team and their fans, which is why he wanted to stay around the NFC East as well as base his businesses in the DC area.

I've got no bad blood with the guy, I'm not saying Gibbs is a coward for leaving, but as far as the sentiments on NASCAR, we saw Gibbs leave for it once, and we've seen him leave for it again. Granted he went through some shit this past time, it would've been great to see him stick around one more year for posterity's sake to make sure that the team kept an even keel.

Oh well, Gibbs is a legend regardless.

Anyone who can find something dislikeable in Joe Gibbs obviously has something wrong with them.

I'm tired of hearing about Arrington, just stick to the postgame show on Comcast Lavar because you're not helping anyone when you open your mouth. Seriously.

LA is nuts. He says Gibbs owes LA a bigger explanation than he owes Gibbs for his comments. Wow.

Now Joe is Cowardly like.....?

One thing he says in his TV interview that has an ounce of truth for sure, I'm just a washed up athlete and he left out bitter! Moving on....he's a waste

His restaurant is in the hood and his ratings are accordingly....
