Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
Don't worry about the secondary or anyone on defense for that matter. The redskins are stacked from top to bottom on defense. I think this is just misplaced negativity.

I like the dude, but he can't cover his eyes. That said, I really like our secondary, even if Smoot is the nickel. Our top two corners are top notch, and I love our safety mix.

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
I worded that wrong. I like our secondary DESPITE the fact that Smoot is our nickel. Hopefully Rogers/Hall and our solid rotation of safeties can overcome Smoot's deficiencies.

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
I've always liked Smoot's personality and clubhouse antics, but he is definately not a premier corner in this league. He will make the team though, but I doubt he will be that big of a contribution.
also, if you guys could rally up and vote for my dog I know it's kind of lame but my wife is trying to get me to help. It doesn't take long. Thanks Redskins Nation http://www.cutestdogcompetition.com/...6168832CCD4ADF |

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
How did a thread about Smoot making a crazy play on a WR in training camp turn into a Smoot bashing session?
At any rate, the guy has been a great Redskin and a much needed voice in the locker room, and though i concede that he is a shadow of his former self, I won't say that I expect him to get cut. If for nothing else, he'd be worth a roster spot for his locker room presence and leadership b/c football is such a mental game, especially with this team. Sure, Barnes and Tryon are doing well in training camp and they show promise for the future but when it comes to the real games (and even more so in the playoff chase and the postseason) it's going to come down to experience. I don't know about you but i'd rather have smoot at nickel than a rookie in the opening round of the playoffs, even if there is a drop off in physical ability. Even if you think he did underperform last year, the level to which he underperformed did not warrant the type of reaction that some of you are displaying. Let's be honest there are plenty of other players on the team who sucked it up last year who arguably had a much bigger impact on the team's overall performance.

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
Yeah, that was my first reaction too. He isn't close to being the best corner on the team, but he's worth given some due. He was part of the secondary last year that had to play well to overcome a lack of pass rushing from the redskins dline.

Seems that no player or coach is immune, sooner or later they will take their lashes from the fans.

Re: Smoot tried to decapitate DJ hackett
I don't understand some of the negativity directed at a couple of veteran redskins players recently. First a lot of redskins fans on here turn on Sellers for asking for more deserving money and a perceived lack of effort during practice warmups. And now Smoot for his play last year.
These are 2 guys who are role players on the team because of their positions, but put in some work and heart into their play. And it sucks, if you can't get any love from your fans that is supposed to support your team. I can be one of the first to be critical of a redskins player who doesn't contribute; these guys aren't those players. Hopefully this doesn't become a trend. |
