Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Right now we'd pick 8th, coming into a tougher part of the season.

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
The season's lost. Let's IR cooley and and start Fred Davis and see what he can do. perhaps we can trade one of them for draft picks in the offseason.

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Cooley isn't a good blocker, but he's not terrible like Davis is. It's not just in the pass game, Davis has whiffed on some blocks in the run game. I think it's just another phase of his development, the coaches have said (according to RI) he isn't well versed in the playbook. That may be most of his problem; he's unprepared. He'll improve w/time I think.

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
If Cooley is to be out for the larger part of the season, if not the entire season, then this is probably the best season to be out for. The upside is that we will get to see more of what Fred Davis is all about, which is what we need to do. Davis needs to take advantage of this and play up to expectations. If he plays well the rest of the season (and learns how to block in the meantime) then having both him and Cooley healthy for next season could be a great thing for us! Kind of like a Clint Didier/Don Warren combo.

Zorn is now the Team Nurse?
Better than playcaller, I guess. ![]()

IR Cooley, activate Mitchell weekly with the open spot.

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
I agree with this. Why not get Mitchell some playing time? What is it going to hurt at this point?

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
I agree. And I would actually sit Randel El and activate pretty much anyone else in his place.

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Time for Fred Davis to step up and learn how to play in the NFL. This is a good thing for the kid. Let's face it guys, this offense sucs and the team isn't going anywhere. Cooley gets a year off and Davis gets to learn on the fly.

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Zorn just said that Cooley, at minimum, is out 6-8 weeks -- will likely be placed on IR because they can't leave a roster spot open that long. Said that they'll be looking for another tight end to help.
Maybe Ron Middleton can make a comeback. |

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
I agree. It would truly suck if we were 6-1 and lost Cooley but at 2-5 it is not as much of a blow. Let all the bad stuff that will happen occur this year.

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
Last person I want as a playcaller for my health is Zorn. "Doctor Zorn I think my left ankle is broken." "Ok, to fix that we'll have to operate on your right arm 3 times."
An injury to Cooley should not be the catalyst for getting Mitchell on the field. Mitchell should have been activated from day 1. It's funny Vinny actually makes a good draft pick and we have him dress in street clothes for the game. Part of me feels sorry for Zorn with the way he's being treated but when stuff like this happens I start to loose sympathy.

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
This really isn't as big of a deal as it seems. Davis is more athletic and will do just fine. The line is our problem, not our tight end.
I know people are going to criticize Davis' blocking but Cooley can't block either. |

Re: Cooley Out for the YEAR!!
I know it is unlikely, but this could be good for the long run. Although it is not looking good now, but our 2nd rounders still might have potential to contribute. With Cooley out they will get more looks and more experience. I've pretty much scrapped this season, so as long as Cooley comes back strong as ever next year, I'm not devistated over this.
