I think this has gotta be the biggest worry for us going into next week. A CB corp of Smoot and Hall has got to have Romo licking his chops.

I'd be frustrated too if i was a shutdown corner who couldnt catch balls or actually shutdown receivers. It's been a horrible season but a couple of pick 6's could have really changed some games.

He doesn't ever really make a play though, as much as plays seem to come to him. When he's up against a bad opponent, Hall's technique of severe trail coverage means he's in position to take really ill-advised throws by the quarterback and turn them into big defensive plays. That's something.

Problem with that is that it inherently relies on mistakes by the opponent to become big plays by the defense. If you're going to be a winning team, you shouldn't be in close games against teams that employ Josh Johnson, and Jake Delhomme (and Chris Simms). The fact that the Redskins were is in no way Hall's fault, but any quarterback worth his salt just takes advantage of Hall's complete lack of route recognition ability.

Look at the opponents on his interceptions (26 career).

His aggragate numbers are mediocre, but he has astounding splits between great passing offenses and weak ones. That just suggests that he'll make the plays that come to him, but he's not a playmaker. And that's not worth tens of millions of dollars.

One way I think we could create more turnovers is using our top three or five pass rushing unit to force fumbles, but that requires an agressive man-lock, or mixed-zone scheme to take away options for the quarterback.

The interceptions Hall gets certainly help our defense, I'd say a lot more than most people realize since those aren't factored into our defensive rank, but it's not like he's a rare bird or anything. The Redskins don't have very many players that do what Hall does, but most every other team does. These players aren't really in demand either, because coaches can't do anything schematically with them, except to put them in the game and hope quarterbacks make some bad decisions out there. Coaches like to think in terms of match-ups, and you can't really scheme anything with Hall, as he does one thing very well: turn and run.

So while Hall offers something we sorely need, you're right, the bottom line is that we're paying a lot of money for a guy who doesn't have any total value from a football operations perspective. His role absolutely needs to be filled though, as you can't have a secondary full of Fred Smoots.

By comparison, I'd say Springs was more of a play-creator than Hall ever has been, but Hall's here because he can stay healthy and Springs can't.

I agree that Rogers should be traded for whatever picks we can get, to build up the O-line.

He has saved opposing teams from literally dozens of interceptions because of his inability to catch the ball. He has single-handedly kept us near the bottom of the league in defensive turnovers every year. We have one of the top defenses in the NFL every season, yet always finish near the bottom in turnovers. Carlos is the reason.

If we can't trade him and have to keep him, give him a low base-salary contract with incentives for INTs...make him earn his money.

This is really disappointing, I think Rogers is a solid CB for the most part. He just seems prone to mental lapses. It happened this time last year too, when he got benched for Hall. He's our best man cover cb, but if he continues to bite on the double moves, he might as well stay on the bench. Maybe it comes down to Hall just not being very smart, not preparing well & on top of that seeming to carry a chip on his shoulder.

I expect to see a lot of cover 2 this week. If dallas & garret are smart they'll look to pound the ball on us & make our secondary tackle. If we can stop the run in cover 2 we can win sunday.

Honestly I don't care, this dude has a piss poor attitude. Shit, I'll take D. Hall over Rogers at anytime right now...at least Hall gets picks, I know that's not everything that a CB should do, but Rogers isn't showing anything. I just hope we have a better FO that will find a way to get compensation for him.

I think the reason he's 50/50 and not the premier player he should be is all in his mind. He thinks he's made it so he doesnt put his head down and go to work. He seems to be the type of guy that doesnt want to admit he's got work to do when it's not going good, and he would rather just blame someone else or the circumstances.
