F' foot surgery
Had foot surgery to repair a torn ligament and dislocation in my foot last Friday (it's called a lis franc dislocation).
Two screws and a cadaver ligament later - I've got a cast the size and weight of a cinderblock on my foot and it is staying there until next Wednesday. After that, I get a walking cast that I am not allowed to walk on for another 5 weeks. PLUS, since it's my right foot and I can't put weight on it, I can't drive until sometime in mid-April. Blechhhhh. Even after that, I have to wear the walking boot for another 5-6 weeks. Double blechh. And finally, because misreading the medications (don't ask), I was without pain meds until Monday afternoon - I had the "make you drowsy" drugs, but not the "stop the pain meds". Made for an exciting weekend.

Re: F' foot surgery
Yeah, foot surgeries blow.
Had both of my feet completely reconstructed when I was 17. Cut and repaired all metatarsals (growth problem from youth, said I'd get stress fractures later in life if not corrected). Took 8 screws and 7 pins total. Getting the pins pulled from the bones by pliers was the worst part. I was literally (really) passing out as he was doing that. The nurses were putting cold water on my head and fanning me. ![]() I didn't walk for 4 months after the first one. Learned to walk and immediately had to get the other foot done, then had to learn how to walk again. So, about a year without walking really. 2 months of keeping it elevated in bed, then crutches and walking boots. They couldn't do both at once because it would require me being in a wheel chair and then when learning to put weight on the foot again, I wouldn't have a strong foot to lean on. Was not fun but taught me some life lessons. Then I had two more foot surgeries a few years back to remove shards of glass in my foot. ![]() Hope your recovery goes smoothly. Be careful with the pain killers. Serious. (lesson learned) Listen to the doctor. You don't want to put pressure on the bone where the screw is before it's fully healed and strong enough. Also, be careful with crutches and the boot on stairs. Don't fall down like I did! ![]() You should change your screen name to "Deadfoot".

I was lucky and did not have to have surgery, but i was in the walking boot thing for 6 weeks. Wasn't able to start training again until 4 weeks after that...totally sucked. And yeah i was not SUPPOSED to drive, but i did, and my pickup had a 5 speed too. So good luck.

Re: F' foot surgery
My boss had a foot surgery about 2 or 3 months ago. He tried to return to work to fast and got a infection. He still has a boot on his foot and limps. So be carefull and make sure you keep your foot elevated.

Re: F' foot surgery
I think you need to visit firstdown's downstairs doctor if you're experiencing that, Matty.
Geesh, here goes another thread down THAT road...that's life at The Warpath.

Re: F' foot surgery
lol thats funny.
If you cant drive due to a medical injury, try getting a metro access card, never used it myself but people/cleints who have similar injuries to yours use it.
