Re: 2011 NFL Draft

I'd say there's only 15 established QB's in the NFL right now that have shown they have potential to get it done. I'd say 5 of them (Schaub, Brady, Romo, Cassell, Brees) were not drafted in the first round. I'd say that of the 10 drafted in the 1st round, only 4 of them were not taken in the top 5 (Rodgers, Roethesberger, Freeman, Cutler). This means that there are only 5 proven QB's in the NFL drafted in the first two rounds, but not in the top 5 that have shown they can get it done. These guys have about 10 productive years, which means that there is a 50% chance that we are even in the right year to find a prospect. Not to mention that there are about 6 QBs projected to go in the first two rounds. Lets say 2 of them go in the top 5 that is a 25% chance that we will find the right guy if we are in the right year. There is an 11.5% chance that we will be able to accurately predict who our QB of the future will be. The issue isn't if we need a good qb prospect, its if we believe he is in this draft. To take a QB because you need a qb, not because you genuinely believe in him is a waste of a draft pick. It also sets us back even further from finding our real franchise qb. No team will draft a QB if they have a prospect of the future on their team |

I don't have an issue with trading down, it's probably the most sensible decision, which is why it most likely won't happen lol... Seriously though, having two potentially dominant pass rushers in a 3-4 defense. Typically, especially on passing downs, at least one backer will be blitzing and more often than not, 2 will. The great thing will be making the other team sweat where it's coming from. I'd take Quinn over any of the 3-4 rush backer prospects, even potentially Von Miller, that's not to say I wouldn't be positively ecstatic if we did get Miller. If you didn't notice, teams could just double up on Orakpo all day because there was no other pass rushing threat on the defense other than Landry who got hurt and is, well, a safety. Frankly, I don't care if Orakpo is getting overshadowed, which I seriously doubt he would be, why would anyone? As for the d line, again, I agree but unless we do trade down, I really doubt there will be a lineman who could make the impact on the d available that Quinn or Miller could make. |

Unless you're drafting Andrew Luck you will almost never find a QB that the overwhelming majority is comfortable with. Heck most of the people here wanted to pass on Bradford last year. Bet that virtually everyone would kill to have him now. Also next years class after Luck isn't looking very good at all. Barkley isn't likely to come out and even if he is we won't be in position to draft him. Foles could go either way to. This year we have 8 QB's that are worthy of being taken before round 3. It might not be a top heavy class but it's still very deep and the potential is certainly there for someone to be developed by Shanahan. Anyway don't worry. You guys might not like Locker on draft day but you'll grow into him.

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
I want us to follow the model of the NewYork Jets. They built the team around QB position without a QB, Then their time came to draft one and he had great success because the team around him was already very good. If we can trade down and pick up a second rounder while also getting a key piece later in the draft like Pouncey. I think we will have the ammo to get a nose tackle and Andy Dalton.

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Yes, I would be happy if Flacco were our current QB. Young, relatively productive, good upside for the future. Besides, if we had Flacco then all of this talk of using one of our top picks for a QB would be moot.

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
That is the exact reason why out of all 32 starting QB's in the league, Joe Flacco is the quarterback that I would least like to be my quarterback. Hear me out before you jump all over me. He is not capable of winning a superbowl, but is good enough to start in the league. Combine the facts that he was a first round pick and that he is reasonably productive in the regular season and the team simply cannot get rid of him. The ravens will never be able to win a superbowl with Joe Flacco and they will not be able to get someone who can with him on their roster. This is said assuming the 2000 Ravens defense doesn't come back (were it doesn't really matter who the qb is).

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Trent Williams will be 34 if everyone gets their way in regards to the QB positon.
2011: Oh we need a Nosetackle. Next years QB class will be better. 2012: A franchise Guard will be better then a QB. This isn't a good year to take a QB 2013: We need another Tackle. 2014: Defensive End for our 3-4. Don't worry though next years QB class will be better. 2015: Guys, we really need another first round Guard. Besides this years QB class stinks, next years will be better. 2016: Our Nosetackle is having health problems we need another one. 2017: We need a Tackle of the future. Trent is getting up their in age. 2018: I think we should take a blocking Tight End with our first pick. 4 sacks a year is to much. Our rookie QB will get killed if we take one. Besides it's a weak class. Next years will be better. 2019: We need another Nosetackle. Weak QB class, very weak 2020: I'd rather take a Defensive End. Okay, we'll splurge this year. We'll draft a developmental player in the 6th round to play QB. 2021: Ehhh, our star Guard left for free agency. We need another one, we need to protect the QB. 2022: Trent's to old, the team needs a star Left Tackle if we're going to protect this star rookie QB ya'll want. Besides NEXT YEARS CLASS WILL BE BETERRRRRRR HA HA AHAHAHA AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA
