The reason for the huge signing bonus is to be able to rpo rate it so the cap hit isn't as large in the first few years. Not to save the player from getting cut. That is why the players have no real money in the first 3 years and the yearly salarys swell huge in the final years of the contract so the team can cut them.

I would really like to see the NFL put an end to the whole non-mantory minicamp thing. This would take this ploy out of the agent's bag of tricks. Then if someone misses a practice you can start hiting him in the bank account. The other thing that causes this proplem is that none to the contracts are guaranteed. If a team can rip up players' contracts at will then the players feel they can as well.

I know, I know. I have a HUGE problem with the money pro-athletes are paid. I just think a lot of them whine when they are getting paid more money than even the smartest people in this country will ever see.
