Re: Fred Davis Tagged

The franchise amount for TE's is 5.4 million - down from last year's 7.3 mil. The new CBA lowered tag amounts. They are now computed using a % of overall cap figure for the last 5 seasons (for that position) as opposed to an average of individual salaries.

TE was the lowest position to tag. Landry would have cost 6.3 mil this season (2nd lowest) so I think this was a good move now even more than before.

Re: Fred Davis Tagged

I have a question. Didn't we still have time to sign him before using the FT or was there a deadline. I thought it just had to be used before teams were free to sign free agents.

Good question. I am curious as to why free agency doesn't start right after the franchise tag deadline.

No, the deadline to use the tag was yesterday at 4 pm. As Ruh said, I don't understand why they have that waiting period between the tag deadline and FA, but again I have extremely limited knowledge on those matters so I don't have much of an opinion on the subject.

Re: Fred Davis Tagged

did we want to sign him anyways? i thought the plan was to give him one year of probation with the tag to see if he acts right

Re: Fred Davis Tagged

I understand the tag I was just confused why we tagged him yesterday but from what I read the deadline was yesterday. I would have perfered us signing him to a contract that had some behavior clauses because I think his value will go up this year.

You need a tampering period between tagging and signing.
