You're probably right, Gibbs didn't get involved in the number crunching on Brunell's contract. But the front office (Vinnie, Danny, etc.) certainly knew that Gibbs wanted him and wanted him badly. That probably led to the overblown contract that MB ended up with.
Oh well, it's water under the bridge now. From Danny's point of view, it's better to have a $42M player actually playing rather than holding the clipboard.
