Goldson signed for an average of slightly over 8 mil per year when the cap was 10 mil less. Plus there is Eric Berry, whose contract averages 10 mil per year already. Given the cap rising like it is, 9 mil is not out of the question. Especially since it will continue to go up a good amount in the future.
Most of you are still stuck on the cap being 120 mil or less when talking about salaries. Those days are over. Thats why Shields got almost 10 mil per year from the Packers. No way is he worth that under the previous salary structure of the NFL. He probably is worth it now, and is easily worth it in a couple of years. Salaries of top end players are going to be jumping significantly in the next 5 years.
