Re: Week 1 Positives and Negatives

Stole this from /r/Redskins.

Some PFF notes on the Texans game (positives & negatives)
---------------------------------------------------------------
As always, players are compared among those with over 25% of snaps.

Not including the 2 Monday night games.

---------------------------------------------------------------
The Positives:
  • Robert Griffin III had the 2nd highest completion rate (78.4%) among QB's. His 267 yards and 96.7 passer rating were 11th. We were guinea pigs to the Texans D, just like we were guinea pigs to the Eagles O last year.
  • Signature Stats: The good: RG3 was #1/28 in accuracy (91% accounting for drops, throwaways, spikes, batted passes, & hits as thrown). He was #4/28 in accuracy under pressure, and #5/28 in PFF's adjusted passer rating. The bad: He had the 3rd longest avg time to throw (2.93 seconds). It seems his accuracy was good BECAUSE he waited so long for the perfect opportunities. Peyton Manning is still #1 in time to throw, and Andy Dalton #2.
  • Andre Roberts graded #3/53 among kick/punt returners FUCK YEAH. His 18 yds/punt return is 2nd, and his 28 yds/kick return is 7th.
  • Our punter Tress Way graded #6/28 YEAH MUCH IMPROVED
  • Our receivers had 0 drops, after being top 5 in drops for the last two years.
  • Our DE's are way better: Jason Hatcher graded #5/44, Chris Baker #20/44, Jarvis Jenkins #29/44. That's much better than last year when all our DE's were graded in the bottom 25th percentile. If Cofield played (ankle sprain) instead of Jenkins, they would've been that much better.
  • Our ILB's are way better: Keenan Robinson graded #6/46, Perry Riley #22/46. Keenan Robinson allowed 1 of 4 passes for 6 yds (and he's our highest graded ST's player). Last year London Fletcher was dead last among 100 ILB's (respect, only because of old age).
  • Kory Lichtensteiger graded #5/30 among Centers.
  • Our run defense held Arian Foster to 3.8 yds/carry (PFF actually graded him -5.0 hahaha). Last year PFF graded our run defense 31st so that looks much improved.
  • Alfred Morris ran 6.5 yds/carry (5th), and Roy Helu ran 11.5 yds/carry (although his blocking was questionable).
  • Jarvis Jenkins was penalized on a late hit to Ryan Fitzpatrick... Who cares? I'm glad our 2nd round pick is finally making it to the QB, good for him. Questionable call anyway.
  • Niles Paul caught 86 yds, 2nd among TE's only to Julius Thomas (see: 3 TD catches in the first half).
  • Jadeveon Clowney got 0 QB pressures on 13 rushes.
  • Polumbus was graded #5/60Idon'tknowwhybutItrustthem. His run blocking was 8th, and his pass blocking was 24th.

The Medium:
  • Rak, Kerrigan, and Murphy were graded average and didn't do much, but I think its because the Texans ran the ball so much since they had the lead. But not every game will be like that. Orakpo only pass rushed on 12 of 20 pass plays. Wtf is he afraid to take on elite LT's? Kerrigan rushed on 21 of 24.
  • Guards Chester and Lauvao graded about average.

The Negatives:
  • Cofield right ankle sprain
  • Jordan Reed hamstring strain
  • Our secondary is still very bad: PFF graded our Safeties in the bottom 10th percentile, and our CB's in the 60-70th percentile (both about the same as last year).
  • Logan Paulsen graded #43/49, as always
