Re: Redskins fire GM Scot McCloughan
Quote:
I recognize that the NFL is very much a "Who you know" game, but BA seems to take that to a whole other level. The McCloughan experiment probably strengthened his "I'm not hiring outside my circle" mentality. While not a horrific GM/Head of Operations/Grand Poobah, I just feel Allen lacks that moxie to take the Skins to the next level. Under him, we have had good cap management (yes, largely in part to Schaeffer), restraint - but flexibility - in the UFA market, and each draft he has been a part of has had some good hits. I just get the feeling, however, that there is no self-examination or real long term plan outside of good fiscal roster management. It's more of a "Hey, this looks good. Let's try this." Someone once described Allen as a person who started out his career on third base but acts like he hit a triple to get there. I have a feeling that's a pretty accurate assessment.
