What are Gardner, TJ, and Muhammad Worth

A couple of interesting things I ran across regarding WRs we have and are possibly considering:

The Redskins are dangling receiver Rod Gardner in trade talks and word out around the Senior Bowl was they are asking for a second-round pick. That would seem a bit high, considering Gardner had trouble holding onto the ball last year. The Redskins want more consistency out of the receiver position opposite Laveraneus Coles.

Word out of Cincinnati is that wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is asking for a contract with a signing bonus of $8 million. While Houshmandzadeh came on late and became a key factor down the stretch for the Bengals, it's doubtful the team will give him that kind of money, which would mean he would become an unrestricted free agent. The one knock on Houzmandzadeh is that he doesn't run that well, and that never helps drive up the price on the free-agent market.

Panthers receiver Muhsin Muhammad remains under contract for 2005. But he's scheduled to have a $12.5 million salary-cap figure and to receive a $10 million roster bonus by March 2. Those numbers mean the Panthers either have to release Muhammad or sign him to a cap-friendly extension. The buzz is that the agent for Muhammad, Joel Segal, told the Panthers it would take a five-year deal for about $35 million in total value, with a signing bonus of about $10 million, to keep Muhammad.

I think it's smart to ask for a second for Gardner. It's not too high (first) that other teams will hang up on you but it's a good starting point for negotiations.
