Right now, I would trust only Santana Moss to return punts.

Re: Redskins Cuts
Paul should be PR/KR. He's tough as nails and runs hard. Protects the ball well. And isn't important to the offense, the way Tana is.

Re: Redskins Cuts
I am aware of those issues, but it may become necessary in the short term to go with Santana or to use him part time in critical game situations. We are contenders now and we cannot risk giving away a close game.

Re: Redskins Cuts
Id go with Santana but transition Thompson into the role. Thompson is a bigger threat and a special teams score can affect the game in our favor just as well as a fumble. I'd say focus on the RB role first and address the fumbling issue, then mid season move Thompson into the PR role.

Re: Redskins Cuts
Anyone holding out hope for Skye Dawson? I've liked his potential at returner, but I just don't think it's enough to make the team.

Re: Redskins Cuts
I'm guessing they will plug in Thompson to begin the year, and if he fumbles the job away they will go with plan B, which could be Moss. But to start Moss off there, I don't think the risk is worth it.

Re: Redskins Cuts
Crawford won the job as a rookie so why not Thompson despite the 2 fumbles as a running back. If not him then Niles Paul has done a good job in the past.

Re: Redskins Cuts
I'm with you. You have to trust your PR to hold onto the ball. A fumbled punt can be the difference in a game. I'd rather gain zero yards per punt return than have a PR guy who coughs up the ball.

Re: Redskins Cuts
We're about an hour and a half away from hearing the last few roster moves to get to 75. I think they will officially announce that carriker has been placed on IR, since 1067 reported it yesterday yet know one can confirm. Probably a premature report.

Re: Redskins Cuts
Does moving a guy to the IR count as a cut? How many guys can you have on the IR? Why not just make up an injury and put all the guys we like but need to cut, on the Injuried Reserve?

Re: Redskins Cuts
Doesn't really count as a cut but he won't count against the eventual 53 players on the ACTIVE roster.
When he's activated from IR, an accompanying roster move will need to made to free up a spot on the active roster. Is he going on the 8- or 16-game IR? Big loss if 16 because we need depth on this D-line that keeps getting thinner. There's not really an 8-game list, but teams can now activate one player a year from the IR list after 8 games. Carriker would be a good candidate if healthy, he makes an impact when healthy.
