Re: 2014 salary cap....and the money we have
Quote:
According to my math cutting those 4 would free up just under 9 mill. To me that is more valuable to us than those 4 by a long shot IMO. Chester was a bad signing and he played soft all of last season. He needs to be replaced and upgraded. I think a rookie could give us at least as much production out the gate with the potential to grow at a much lower price. Carriker clearly has to be cut. There is no way to justify paying him that much. He has had 1 good year (2011) and even then he was ranked very low as a run defender. Bowen was also good in 2011 but has been a non-factor since. The dead money part sucks but if he isn't producing and cutting him saves 2 mill plus opens up a roster spot to bring in someone who can (or has the potential to) i think thats the way to go. Golston never has been anything more than a big body and he is one of the poster boys for the good guy, good in the locker room types that we hold on to even though they bring nothing to this team on the field. Needs to be let go just for the sake of opening up a roster spot. The money saved is just gravy If you are right and we have 36 mil to work with before these cuts that would put us at almost 45 mil when/if we made them. I would be interested in seeing if we would save anything substantial for cutting Lichtenstiger. I think he is set to make something in the 3 mill range which isn't much but that guy just doesn't look like an NFL OL. I think if he stays he should move to C. He usually gives up about 40 lbs to the people he is trying to block. Can't be to surprised when they just walk him into the backfield every time we pass. |
