I'm fine with this, but these are some of the issues in doing so.

1) How can you tell 50+ players they have to earn their starting spot and allow one guy to be given via silver platter? You'll lose the locker room and trust from players immediately.

2) How long do you allow him to start if no major signs of progression go on? This is another way you'll lose the locker room. Sacrificing the team to benefit the development of one guy.

3) His option year is guaranteed for injury. Do you allow him to play the 2nd half of the season knowing a major injury will put you on the hook for 16mil next year?

I agree with the principle of it, but I'm not sure how you can get the team to buy into it. Hell, they had problems buying into last year, which is a good reason why we were 4-12.

Shanahan is about himself and nothing more. Anything he says about the Skins will be slanted to cast him in the best light or.......an outright lie.
Whichever makes him look better.

Gruden isn't running a different offense depending on the player, he isn't necessarily running an offense that fits RG3 though.

RG3 threw up all over himself on few plays Thursday. He either isn't making good presnap reads, or one move by the defense is causing chaos in his brain. He knows the line play isn't good, and he still isn't getting rid of the ball. He also isn't sliding laterally at all, there is alot to look at and just not like.

As for Shanahan, he didn't improve our personnel. I mean they are rebuilding from his rebuilding.

WOW!

Yeah, I've missed both preseason games, and when I read everyone's comments this is what I pictured. . . then I watched the highlights. He had no protection.

I don't know, maybe some of it his his "fault," but I imagine if this is an area that he needs to improve on, it must be pretty tough to do that when you get lit up every play after 3 seconds.

I'm just hoping our run game can get going early this season and take some pressure off of RG3 so that we stand some chance of getting something out of him.
To be honest, I am not sure that the protection will or will not make a difference. Common sense says it would. I just wanted to show what a struggling QB looks with good protection. What was saw last week was just brutal.

From what I understand about the preseason, teams don't necessarily run an offense or do anything that could give opponents the opportunity to get any trends on what might be done. Teams run base plays and the coaches look for execution. Success is determined on how well players execute.

Kurt Warner: Redskins' offensive struggles weren't about Griffin

Quote:
"There were some things that I saw on tape where you could easily say if Robert maybe went to the other side on a couple of those reads, he could have got the ball out a little bit quicker,” Warner told old friend Dan Hellie on NFL Network. “But I think we have to be honest when we look at the tape, and say this wasn’t RGIII’s fault, for the most part. He wasn’t back there holding onto the ball, hitching, looking both directions. He was back there, he was dropping, he was trying to get the ball out of his hands, and his offensive line really, really struggled [Thursday] night."

Not really. He didn't say anything bad in the interview, and mind you, they asked him about it.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...t-rgiii-again/

Quote:
“To be honest with you, you don’t get to study him on a day-to-day basis,” Shanahan said. “I don’t look at his film every day. But I can give you an opinion after my first year when I was there: you get a guy like Robert who’s been with an offense, very comfortable with what he did in college. He never had a playbook. Never had two-level throws or three-level throws. So you could see very quickly that was going to take some time.

“But you had a guy that had some great athletic skills, a guy that was very smart, a guy that was into the game,” Shanahan said. “And what you try to do is utilize those talents and go with it. You know, some guys, at the end of the season — like Robert did — he felt like he was a little bit more of a drop-back passer than a few of us thought. And now he’s going to have a chance to go out and prove himself.”
He's accurate. It's why I would never draft a spread offense QB highly and expect anything soon.

kurt warner also got hit like 4 million times while playing, so i'm not sure he's the best guy to ask about that.

If Kurt Warner isn't credible then who is? He has more knowledge about football and the quarterback position than all the posters here combine. I'm not saying that Robert doesn't deserve some criticism for the way our offense performed. But that line didn't give him much of a chance.

Re: Robert Griffin III ready to turn career around with Redskins in 2015

Unfortunately, anyway you look at it the poor guy is doomed. First of all most of us I think can agree that Robert was indeed a systems QB out of Baylor. Systems QBs in Div IA are not really being prepped for the pros. Leinart from USC is the best example by far. Second of all, this kid was really overhyped. Yes he was an extremely good athlete, but the hype he received was out of this world. I thought the Carr, Harrington, then Leinart and Young hype jobs were over the top, but they don't hold a candle to what the media did to hype up RGIII. This kid didn't stand a chance of living up to it. Even his ROY season couldn't totally match the hype. This not coming close to living up to that hype is the source of the "hating". On top of the hype, and the fact he wasn't really groomed for the NFL, he got drafted by a mess of an organization, that didn't know anything about building a real contender. As we saw this past Thursday night, our line without Trent sucks, and let's be honest Trent gets banged up often. Even with Trent in there, it is an average line at best. In fact, Trent is the only true starter we have on our O line. The rest are nothing more than second stringers thrown out there due to FO incompetence of the last decade. This fact alone almost guarantees that Robert will only survive through week 5 only by the grace of the Almighty. If Suh and co come in real hungry he might not last past week 1. Couple the fact that the o line is horribly outclassed and the fact that RGIII really hasn't shown enough improvement thus far in the preseason, I don't think he is going to be upright past week 5. IF I was Scotty M, I also wouldn't draft a QB in 2016, but do some great scouting for more offensive linemen in the first two rounds. Any new rook we get is still going to get killed with the boobs we have on our line. Shore up the offensive line before we go for another young gun. We don't need to ruin more young QBs like Patrick and now Robert because of wrong schemes/bad offensive lines.

I will say in my opinion only(that aint worth much)..that in 3 years from now Cousins will still be in league playing and RGlll will be distant memory..in fact i do not believe that there is one team in the league that would trade a 5th round pick for RGlll …i believe that RGlll will not last 3 games into reg season..do i like bashing Him…NO but I have seen enough! funny there are a lot of ex players and coaches around the league saying this…Brian Mitchell tells it like it is..period! RGlll talent is his athletic ability he was great his first year before all the injuries. they are trying to mold him into something he is not..there lies the issue. he is to gimpy to do what he does best and to stubborn to change, that equals bad QB play no matter what OL you are behind..great thing about Football is we will all get to watch how this unfolds..

Cousins will get his shot by week 6 in my opinion, then we will see if he is the real deal. I am not going to get on Kirk's bandwagon at all till I see some improvement over a period of say 5-6 games. Michigan State QBs usually make great backups in the NFL, but are not starting material. Scotty might just go for a QB in 2016, but I wish he would strengthen the offensive line first before he drafts another QB.

Robert is Mr. Snyder's golden boy(marketing scheme), as well as the most athletic QB of the 3 on the roster. Coupled with the fact of the price we paid to acquire him, the organization rather play out the sad tragedy that is probably going to unfold when Robert, gets hurt. If he gets hurt the organization can save some face and move on without admitting he was a total bust.

Hes no better than what we have in our backup barn.
I'm willing to wait for cuts and or next years draft to refill the QB position.
Lets not burn anymore draft picks for this year.
