Colts tried to win via free agency and it's not working

They didn't do squat to upgrade their OL, huge mistake.

Re: Around the NFL- Week 2

If the Redskins do better than expected this season, I have a feeling that as between Dallas last year and the Redskins this year, teams will start to perhaps think that the focus on the O-line really is the way to go. Amazes me that teams don't obsess about O-line strength; it's always struck me as the real key. Better lock up our better players sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I think Scherff's about due for a contract extension. I'm thinking somewhere in the lifetime-150 mil range.

It's almost like the NFL trends in cycles. Next thing you know, running backs and the running game will be more important than the passing game.

Smart teams do.
The Patriots have used their past 5 first round picks on front 7 or offensive line players.
The Seahawks pretty much have done the same thing, even though they trade away a lot of their picks.
Steelers have used their past 7 picks on front 7 or offensive line players.

It seems smart teams invest on the oline.

Bobb McKittrick of the 49ers (1979-99) coached up 11th round draft picks into
Pro Bowl offensive lineman, all 5 of the Super Bowls were won under his watch. His ability to make solid blockers out of cast offs and later round picks was nothing short of amazing.

You could say the same about Joe Bugel.

Pretty sure protecting the QB has been a priority in the NFL for a few years now.
