Just wanted to point out that stats for a LOLB should be better than those of a ROLB. Any OLB going against a team's LT is always going to face the better competition instead of the RT. I think which side they play on should also factor into those stats as well.

Brown Frown Pregame Thread

Would anyone who thinks that questioning (not crucifying-just questioning) RK must be drunk or retarded trade him for anyone else on this list? Just curious? Based solely on talent. Not injuries , etc. not discounting this stuff but I think everyone is in agreement about Kerrigans durability and work ethic, etc. |

Re: Brown Frown Pregame Thread
My assessment of Kerrigan is that he is one of the few disciplined players on this defense. He doesn't charge up the field in search of personal glory, he stays at home the extra beat on play fakes to make sure he doesn't get gashed by the run, and then charges for the QB.
He chases the ball carrier from the back side like nobody else on the team. He's heady and alert, he forces fumbles, and disrupts screens through recognition. He's not Von Miller, but he has a pretty quick first step, and is very powerful. He uses his hands well. Most of all he's consistent. He's never missed a game, he rarely comes off the field, he has frequently moved inside to rush from the interior in nickel situations. He is our best defender not named Josh Norman. I appreciate him greatly. Now, would he be the best pass rusher on a top 5 defense? Probably not - you would want a Khalil Mack or Von Miller or JJ Watt. But calling Kerrigan average is ignorant. We're not a great defense yet, I hope McCloughan gets us there. But you guys need to stop and appreciate what we have. If you took Kerrigan off this team we'd be a bottom five defense, for sure.

Agreed. Great insight and solid points there. Not saying we can afford to lose him. Not even close. It would be devastating. However, I think stats can be skewed. Situations affect them. There is a difference between a sack when a team needs a stop and a sack when a team is winning and the competition is weak. Based solely on my memory it feels like he has a habit of not showing up in big spots, or simply disappearing for long stretches. Anyway I really am not a RK hater. I do appreciate him. I just wish he was more of a "difference maker". Lord knows we need one. Hope he goes on a tear and I have a crow overdose. I really do. Didnt mean for my overrated comment to cause such a stir. I blame Chico for pointing out that Murph has been picking up for his poor play. It set me off. Lol. |

If you saw a Khalil Mack lined up opposite Kerrigan he would look completely different.

Re: Brown Frown Pregame Thread
It's really no different from Jordan Reed's lack of red zone production so far. Last year teams saw how devastating he was in the red zone. And every team we've faced this year has high-lowed him with a LB underneath and a safety over the top.
They're taking him away and making us prove we can score TDs other ways. So far they're smart to do that. But the dip in production doesn't indicate that Reed is having a down year, it indicates that teams notice how great he is and they're trying to counter it. Until Murphy or Preston Smith, or one of our interior rushers gains a reputation for consistently disrupting, don't look for offenses to change their approach to Kerrigan. It's a sign they respect what Kerrigan can do.

Well said. Probably won't be long until Reed gets kicked under the bus. |

No doubt the defensive masterminds that have been roaming our sidelines during his career have bought nothing to the table to help him. No doubt. Point taken. |

That's how it seems at times, unless a guy is a "difference maker", and good luck defining that, then he's average or a scrub, or the worst ever. |

Re: Brown Frown Pregame Thread
For the most part Kerrigan has been singled up all year long. He's just not getting to the QB. It's also not all about pass rush. Kerrigan has also been a liability against the run this year. Just calling it like I see it. Calling him an average player isn't a stretch. I love the guy and all, great work ethic, great teammate, but I just don't see him as a guy that offenses are scared of. Our best player on defense is probably Josh Norman.
Anyhow, really want to see Kerrigan and the defense have a big game Sunday. No reason why they shouldn't....oh wait, who's calling the defense?? |
