The after London semi-meltdown thread.

People either have very short memories or maybe just weren't fans during the truly lean years around here. The negative comments about this being a lousy team are just ridiculous.

The after London semi-meltdown thread.

Lost season or team? That is effed up. We are literally one play on d, o, and st from being 7-1! One bad pass by KC vs Dallas, one bad drive allowed by D against Detroit, and one putrid awful disgusting kick by our kicker yesterday.
I could care less if they cut him - lol - it really isnt that big of a deal. He just sucks right now. I mean a 34 yarder? You let the pressure get to you on a 34 yarder? That is so not good.
However, whoever our kicker is, we are a good team. We were a terrible team up until about midway through last season. We are in every single game, and win more than we lose. That is called trending up folks. Also if you think the season is over you really need to look at the standings. We are in the mix for a playoff birth in more than one way, and in two weeks we should be healthier than we have been.
Preston Smith is bordering on Breeland territory right now. A few guys including those two really need to step up.
There are two that need to step up and play how they are capable of playing on a more consistent basis - Kerrigan and Norman. I just want RK to be more of a disruptive force for longer stretches. He is the leader of our defense, yesterday he was getting nowhere near Dalton for a long time. No I don't want to cut him you can hold off on the Kerrigan witch hunt talk. I just expect more from him. Norman too.

Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.

I think calls for Hopkins' head are a bit premature. He has an 88% accuracy rating over the last two years plus booms kicks out of the end zone. The guy misses one kick badly and everyone wants his head. Does no one recall the trail of kickers we had through here before him?

Suisham 06 - 09: 80% FG kicker
Gano 09-11: 74%
Billy Cundiff '12: 58%
Forbath: 12-15: 88% (BUT - 25 of 31 on kicks of more than 40yds; plus KO's rarely reaching the end zone).

Before yesterday, Hopkins has missed ONE kick less than 40 yards (out of 17 attempts) and only two (out of 14 attempts) at least gives us a shot on 50+ attempts (3 of 7).

Good kickers are NOT a dime a dozen and cutting Hopkins b/c of yesterday's OT miss would be a huge mistake IMHO. If he continues to clunk short range kicks, fine. Right now, however, he has better accuracy and distance than any kicker we have had, at least, in the last six years. Crazy to talk of cutting him right now.

Kerrigan reminds me of Orakpo in this way. He's never developed any pass rush moves. Just the bull rush.

I think with Smith, he just doesn't have the burst or explosiveness coming off the line. And he also seems to have only one move.

Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.

Kerrigan and Smith are both above average pass rushers but no where near elite. Would love to have a bonifide stud, but they don't grow on trees. That's why it was nice to see a good amount of blitzes and pressures.

People need to realize that A.J. Green is no worse than the 2nd best receiver in the NFL, no one is shutting him down. Expecting Norman to do so is being unrealistic. He has been good for us. Felt like a Twilight Zone with all those hands to the face penalties though. That was crazy.

+1
He's as good or better than anyone else in this league.

Totally crazy to talk of cutting Hopkins. I think in the bad old days the Skins would have cut him but now with cooler and smarter heads prevailing they recognize him for what he is, a top notch kicker.

Re: The after London semi-meltdown thread.

Just completely stupid to remotely talk about cutting Hopkins. Yes, he missed a field goal that he almost automatically makes otherwise, but it happens. Otherwise, he's easily been the best field goal kicker we've had in awhile.

Unfortunately, I think the Redskins have placed themselves in a very tough spot if they think they're playing in the post season this year. They needed to have beaten the Lions even if they had lost yesterday. Now, they just about have to run the table in the second half of the season to secure a playoff spot. It can certainly happen, but it's going to be tough.

All in all, I think this team at least finishes above .500. They will make it deep into the playoffs next year.

Yeah I mean for 1 1/2 years now we have been at least competitive. And we have won 2 divisions in the past 4 years. I have no complaints with the direction.

Does Smith even have a sack? I haven't even seen him get pressure off the line once this season. He's been by far the biggest disappointment.

When was the last time we had a winning record at the halfway mark? 2008 I believe. People need some perspective.

Smith has done nothing to prove himself above average. Nothing. He keeps playing like this and he might not even be a starter.

He turned it around last year late, hoping after the bye he starts playing better.

Also, gotta remember, its only his 2nd season.

Perspective

Wild Card Standings:

1) Green Bay Packers 4-3
2) New York Giants 4-3
Philadelphia Eagles 4-3
Washington Redskins 4-3-1

WE STILL PLAY ALL OF THOSE TEAMS in the second half. We still control our own destiny so simmer down.
