This will definitely test Jay in the one area where I'm not 100% confident in him - his ability to hire.

I would be happy with either Bradley or Pettine. I still view Bradley as the most likely. Just so many ties to the organization.

Wade should be the top candidate though, by any measure. If you're going to interview 7 or 8 coaches, Wade Phillips better damn well be one of them or I have major questions.
No doubt. If they don't even interview Wade I am sold even less on Jay. Or if they interview him and basically come away unimpressed I will have to wonder why. Do they just not care about past production? Or one of their requirements is a young energetic guy? Can't understand how Jay wouldn't have learned anything from the Joe B. experience.

Idk, just because a coach worked successfully under one guy doesn't mean he's ready to take the next big step. Callahan is a retread anyways, a former failed head coach who has had major success coaching offensive lines where he goes. Not sure he even wants a coordinator position, if he did why would he come here after all the success he had coaching Dallas' o-line.

Pretty much what you said.

All we can do is wait and see what they do.

Then there is this.....it would really hurt our chances with Wade

Sean McVay trying to take Wes Phillips with him to LA, especially if his dad is coaching the D, would not be a surprise at all.

Cavanaugh has been OC with Bears, Ravens and Steelers.

Seems like the odds are stacked against us on that one. What does it say that McVay would immediately choose Wade but when Jay interviews Wade he decides to go with Joe Barry instead? Not a good look for us.

It says that he is a young inexperienced head coach that needs a proven voice in the locker room to back him up. We don't need that. We need someone younger who will be here a while.

I know Wikipedia isn't the best source but I am missing the part where he was offensive coordinator for the Steelers. I think you mean U of Pitt.

And I really wouldn't be giving him bragging rights for being o-coordinator of the late 90's Bears juggernauts and that Super Bowl winning Ravens squad won by their offensive dominance in 2000.

TL;DR: I have no doubts he is a fine qb coach, I think he is Joe Barry 3.0 of o-coordinators.

Why would Wade not be here a while? Is his health in decline? Has he shown any inclination that he is a short term solution? Or is this solely being based off his age?

Ever since his downfall as HC of the Raiders he really seems to have found his niche as being an excellent o-line coach.
You are overlooking the fact that Callahan left Dallas because he wanted the OC job there when it came open but he didn't get it.

Per this ESPN article Callahan was the o-line coach and play caller for Dallas until he got demoted from play caller to just o-line coach. Then his contract was up and per the article he received multiple offers to be o-line coach and/or offensive coordinator before he decided to join the Redskins as our o-line coach.

I don't want to call you out but please back up your source. If he wanted the job it's news to me and would most likely change my opinion accordingly.

I swear if McVay uses my philosophy of make Wes OC to get Wade as DC I may be in the looney bin before the season even starts...
