I am born and raised in philly...IMO mayo on a cheese steak is rediculous. The only thing that should be on a cheese steak is steak, cheese & onions.
In philly mayo is never standard unless you order a cheese steak hoagie...which is a cheese steak with mayo, lettuce & tomato. It's not traditional but some people like it. Anyone near Philly who wants to try the best steak in the world should check out Steve's Prince of Steaks on Bustleton Ave in NE Philly. The best by far...their trick is to use liquified american cheese which gives you the consistency of cheese wiz but the taste of real american cheese...unbelievable!
