Mark Warner isn't hurting for money. He has a net worth of over $200 million I believe. Problem with Hilary is her lack of national appeal, I don't think she rates that well in middle america

Wish all political threads could stay civil, let's hope this one does.

Gore may jump in, especially as we closer and there is no clear cut nominee. Warner?....Don't know about him. Nationally I don't think a lot of people really know his story. Today's politics are vastly played out in the media and one's ability to raise money. Both Hillary and Obama have a leg up, in fact two legs up on the rest of the party in that regard.

I thought Warner had said recently that he wasn't running for President in 2008. Anyone think John Edwards will make a go at it? And what do you all think of Pataki?

And I feel all dirty responding to a thread that 0421kidwell started. So henceforth we're pretending that RobH4413 started this thread.

Re: Why Barack Obama in 2008!!

I think Edwards will jump back in it. As far as Warner, look at Arnold S., for instance, he's a Governor but he still has national appeal. Even if you don't live in the state of California, some have an opinion about his politics. The average joe living outside of the D.C. area don't know who Mark Warner is, much less his politics. Many people know George Pataki because he's Gov. of NY., and the events surrounding post 9/11. If you ask the average voter to name, let's say 3 to 5Governors across the country, they would probably start to struggle to name them after three.

Bush Jr. came in on the heels of dad's legacy. Reagan was well known before he got into politics. Even Jimmy Carter had an interesting story that gain him national appeal, he was known as the guy who owned a peanut plantation for crying out loud!!

All I'm saying is 'who you are' isn't everything, but it does go a very long way in the minds of voters until they can actually sort through the fray for themselves.

What does that say about the average Joe? And the scary thing is that the average Joe votes.

arnold is not the typical governor...he is not nationally known because of his politics, but because of him being a movie star. his politics are getting noticed now, but if he werent a movie star no1 outside of cali would know who he was. i dont know any movie stars who might become president in 2008

No, you're exactly right. He's just the extreme example of what I'm trying to point out. The fact is, the handful of Governors that we do know, something or some event has placed them in a national spot light, which could help them on the campaign trail. But you're right, Arnold is known because he was a movie star first, politics second.

The Terminator can't run though as he wasn't born here. Behind him I think the the most well know governor nationally is Jeb Bush.

I'm as liberal as they get and I hate Hilary's guts. If she runs, I will vote for someone else.

Re: Why Barack Obama in 2008!!

Exactly, the average joe isn't really informed on the issues. By the way, I don't profess to know what the issues are We basically go with who the media darling is, see if they are nice looking or speak well, and if they haven't done anything terribly immoral, chances are we might cast a vote for that individual.

But Saden1, if you are liberal and the Dems nominate her...who do you go with McCain??

I'm not a big believer in staying home. If Hilary is running, I'm voting Green. If the Republicans win so be it.
