I know this makes me sound heartless, but what sucks most about it is that we're so deep in the hole we can't realistically take advantage of it

I don't think that's heartless at all - injuries are a HUGE part of this violent game. We've had our share, but had we taken care of business at home in winnable games against Minnesota and Tennessee, we'd be right in the thick of the division race. The NFC East is overrated, pure and simple.
