Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
Yea Saunders is calling the plays. That is the usual job of the offensive coordinator. I think the only questionable play call was the slant to Cooley on 3rd and 9 that got picked off. It was a bad play for that situation. The playcalling was good and particularly balanced which is Saunders theme. 205 passing and 210 rushing is solid. The simple reson for the loss is 2 INT's that resulted in 14 points.

Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
Thing is, I think these kind of games are exactly what JC and the team need. I'd rather them get it out of their system, improve, and learn those lessons that only come in moments of struggle and loss THIS season than next season when the slate is wiped clean.
Learning how to bounce back from a bad showing and come back the next quarter or week is a key trait of a great QB. Look at what happens to guys who win all throughout college and then come into the NFL and choke, it's like they never regain their footing, they're just reeling because they have all this pressure to not screw up. I got stuck watching the Ravens game so I only caught the "high"lights, but that pickle that popped off Cooley's pads seemed fluky and it sounded like the ball bounced Philly's way a couple of times. We ran all over them, didn't get killed by Westy, and JC learned a bunch (without getting seriously hurt). What else can you really ask for at this point? |

Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
Are there still members of this board that still haven't realized that Saunders calls the plays? It's been 14 weeks and 13 games and yet we still endure "Gibbs play-calling sucks" threads.
Going for the FG was a decent move after the fact we didn't try to punch it up the gut with Duckett/Sellers. Kicking the FG and then relying on our D to give us another chance made sense to me given the fact that the Eagles had, what, 54 yards offense in the second half. JC moved the ball very well, especially in the second half. Hindsight makes it look like a bad decision. To me, though the bad decision started and ended with not running it straight forward on 1st/2nd/3rd and goal.

Re: Another poor play calling game by Gibbs
I agree entirely with the quoted post. (I think that the 3 runs strategy would have been the Gibbs call.)
I am sure that Saunders calls all the offensive plays, but something caught my eye. We had the offense on the field, and there was a shot of Gibbs indicating that he wanted to see Saunders, and Saunders went to Gibbs as though he was shot out of a cannon. Did anyone else notice that? Is it possible that Gibbs is now telling Saunders the types of plays he wants to see for certain situations in a game? |
