I would like to see us trade down and get a MLB and a CB. How many DE's drafted at #1 panned out? Look at Houston's #1 overall pick Mario Williams last year. He only had 4.5 sacks.

I get the feeling that we are going to have trouble trading our #6 pick. I still think the skin find some way to get a 3rd round pick (or therabout). Probably trading away a pick from next year or something.

I think that until we see what we get in the free agent market, I can't be sure how we should pick.

I actually tend to think there are going to be a lot of people who would be willing to trade up. WR Johnson, QB Quinn, QB Russell, RB Peterson, OT Thomas, and DT Branch make up a nice top 6 players and I've got to think that someone is going to want to grab whomever is left at 6.

As I've said for some time, I'd love to trade down and nab Patrick Willis and another draft pick so maybe I want to believe that someone is going to be willing to trade up.

If we go for a MLB and pass on a defensive tackle, then we'll have the same run-stopping problems in '07 that we did last year. Griff, Salave'a and Golston will get trampled and whoever we get at linebacker will be forced to deal with unblocked O-linemen 4 yards later.

We need penetration up front. Get a D-tackle. Get Branch.

Ever since our last experiment in the first round from Clemson, Gaines Adams makes me weary.

about 50% pan out. its the same rate as QBs and WRs. you should NEVER judge a guy after his rookie year though. alex smith had 1 td and 11 ints, but last year he was actually respectable. some guys just take a while longer to learn the NFL, and DEs and WRs are two of the positions that can take a couple years to get down.

how many killer DEs go on the FA market though? about the same number of elite LTs, which is maybe 1 per year, if you're lucky. Some times you've just gotta draft your own instead of hoping a stud falls out of the sky for you :/.
