Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
"Okoye was still looking for any way in, so when Campbell asked if he was related to former Chiefs star Christian Okoye, the Nigerian Nightmare, Amobi said yes, even though he wasn't."
Sounds like he might have character issues. |

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
I think that might be stretching it a bit don't you think. I wouldn't necessarily classify that as a "character issue"

TAK..err...SmootSmack, I would give the benefit of the doubt and assume that post was meant light-heartedly.

Yeah, good point. You're a wise one. You've learned a lot in your 100 years here on this earth.

The kid is 19, after 10 years of dominance, he still wouldn't have hit 30 yet, plus he has tremendous potential. I like him, so I say we go for him. I mean we're at the bottom of the barrel right now, there's no place to go but up, right?

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
I'm with you, but here's the thing. The Redskins don't cope well with young players. Looking at how poorly they prepped Jason Campbell to win a game last year, and how poorly they prepped Rocky McIntosh to play a game last year, and their general attitute to the draft, it seems that the oldest coaching staff in the NFL prefers players 28 to 32.
Younger players are warehoused until/unless the Skins are FORCED to use them (Kedric Golston). One side effect of bringing in free agent vets is that the coaching staff isn't very good at developing rookies imho. There's a good chance that Gaines Adams will be gone by pick six. If that's the case, Okoye would be the best choice for the Redskins situation rignt now. Only, the Skins will trade #6 for a veteran player, if they can. The kid will be an NFL starter before he's old enough to drink. |

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
I like this guy, and I always loved the way his father played "The Nigerian Nightmare". I still remeber reading an article about him in KIDS SI back in the early 90's.
This kid has real upside and maybe he is the way we should go in the upcoming draft. He could anchor our line for 10 years and only be 29!! Amazing. I like the idea of Dline, but do you guys think GW would let him on the field for the first part of the season?

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
I can't figure out why, but I have a sinking feeling that the Skins aren't going to draft Okoye.
Something in my gut tells me they're going to go in a direction none of us expected. I hope I'm wrong. |

Remember also that Golston & Montgomery beat out N.Clemons & Cedric Killings for rosters spots last year. There could be a similar battle in camp this year w/Wynn, Daniels & Evans' spots up for competition. I don't think the coaches are poor at developing talent so much as they are cautious about putting guys in that might gamble too easily. |

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
Okoye is really cerebral and will grow into an NFL body. It reminds me a lot of merriman b/c when he was at maryland, IMO, he was NFL-ready at the age of 19, though he was drafted a year later. He still has tremendous upside of becoming even more physically dominating as he is only 22. The only knock on okoye is that he is a DT and its not really a game changing position, though it is vital. What we need from a DT, is to just be an anchor in the middle of the field that will take on doubles and let our other playmakers get some breathing room to operate. Okoye is not this kind of player yet and may never develop into this mold. However, Okoye is still the highest reward lowest risk D-lineman in the draft. I wouldn't be opposed to drafting him but i still think we should get more picks if possible
