Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud
if anything i would argue that the TEs compare closest in our division, with witten playing lights out, shockey constantly performing and lj smith for the eagles as well...
cooley is great for us, but there's alot of great te's in our division... campbell doesn't compare to any of the other qb's in our division yet... unless you're talking about potential. He has the potential to be better than eli, and probably as good as mcnabb is in his prime, but right now he only sets us apart in the fact that he's inexperienced and makes mistakes... He had a great game today and continues to improve, but right now our running game is what is going to set us apart and where we should outperform our opponents throughout the league... I'm glad we're getting the passing game on track, but our offense isn't even the concern today... for the last couple of weeks our d has been very suspect.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud
Portis is as good as anyone in our division, IMO--I agree with CTT. But we were very balanced today--this was not a repeat of the Jets game. The only offensive fuckups were that nauseating red zone series and the Betts fumble, IMO. The late game stuff wasn't great, but that's hard to do for anyone.
Back to back 100+ yard games from CP, a great overall outing from JC, and good O-line play--today, the offense looked good, and that is a silver lining, no doubt. Now, the D, on the other hand... THough Carter had another forced fumble--it was a HUGE play, even though we still couldn't get it done. He's been pretty good, IMO--not great against the run, and at times gets too far upfield, but he's making plays for us.

And what are the numbers? I think Portis is right up there as well.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud
[quote=skinsguy;376765]Instead of following the Prozac crowd who only wishes to point out the "mistakes" of today's game, let's look at the positives.
1. Clinton Portis rushed for over 130 yards today. He's definitely back on track and this is a good sign for our offense if Portis is running like he has the past two weeks. 2. Jason Campbell - should've had four TD passes today, but three TD passes and appeared to really get on a roll today. The guy is going to be a real solid QB in this league. I think he only gets better from here on out. 3. The offense has been opened up. Nobody should complain about our offense being too conservative today. The offense was attacking the Eagles defense and appeared to be unstoppable. 4. Randall Godfrey - had a really good game and was in position for two INTs. 5. Shawn Springs - Continues to prove that he's our #1 CB. A definite shut down corner for us. I hope he has a few more good years left. 6. Our offensive line - it's starting to open holes for our running backs which is in turn allowing us to open our offense up for a balanced passing attack. 7. MacCardell - In year 16, he's still a dependable WR that can step in and make plays for us when our other receivers are out. Even though we might have lost him for the rest of the season, James Thrash has been another solid guy for us to turn to. Through all the many injuries we've had to solid veteran players this year and for us to still be above .500 is a big accomplishment. I believe this team is getting closer to being the team we want to see Sunday in and Sunday out. This loss sucked big time today, but I guarantee we beat a team this season that we're not supposed to beat and that will balance everything out.[/quote Yeah, and the point being? We still lost. This franchise has shitty luck since Jack Kent Cooke dies. One phase of the game is great, but another collapses. I will be a grandfather before we make the playoffs it looks like. We can never catch a break or play a full 60 minutes of football. If the offense sucks, the D looks great and vice versa. The NFL is a rather mediocre product overall this decade it seems. Thank God I am in Detroit with some nice alternatives(Pistons, Wings) to fall back on once the Skins pack it up. |

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud
Great thread. F'ing brilliant. It's perfectly ok it seems to bitch after wins, so why not have a thread like this after a loss.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud
Also, Andre Carter continues to look like a stud with 11 sacks in the last 14 games (7 in this season's 9 games).

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud
Plus, another pivotal forced fumble that nearly saved/won the game for us. Too bad it went unrewarded.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud
I know that you were leading the charge on Carter so you're going to defend the Carter-bashing, but why are you going to be a smart-ass? "People" weren't just complaining about his lack of production, they were saying just how awful he is, that it was another boneheaded move by the front office, etc. "People" had given up on the guy and conclusively decided how good/bad he was 6 games into his arrival in D.C. I should know by now that most Redskins fans are impulsive, hastily judge things, and tend to overstate their cases, but I'm still tired of it. The Carter-haters who predicted his "bust-ness" are wrong and now that they have some egg on their faces, they are silent.

Re: The Silver Lining From Today's Cloud
That's Redskin football, the O steps up, and the D falls short.
