Yeah that's how i see it: we need 1st round talent at either OT or OLB.

... I'm thinking we're going to need 3 definite starters (through draft or FA) at the following positions:

1) Right Tackle - shouldn't require any explanation here

2) OLB - rumor is Marcus is gone. We need a playmaker, someone who can stuff the run, be effective in coverage and blitz.

3) Left end - Neither Taylor nor AC is a good fit at left end. Daniels is just too risky w/ age and injuries so he's a guy i can't imagine we keep and Evans isn't dominant.

G/C may also be a must have depending on the status of Kendell and whether Jansen can successfully transition to the interior. So we've got a first round pick (who must be a starter at one of the said positions) and then 2 or maybe 3 other positions we have to fill. Bottom line: we have to be active in FA. My question to all those more knowledgeable about who's going to be available in FA is who will be the best value at our positions of need?

We need to get rid of a lot of these "good guys". By that I mean when we hear cerrato or larry michaels or zorn (and it used to be Gibbs) say "we'll ____'s real great guy" and this is when they're talking about Jansen or daniels or any of the other vets that we need to get rid of, the front office needs to understand that it's a business and not a " let's be BFFs forever" kinda thing. There better be at least 5 vets gone, if our front office actually cares about building a football team.

Ya but we still get a first round pick, we don't trade that away...but what do you think of the players I have us getting?

Re: 2009 Skins Off Season Plans Ideas, Draft and FA plus cuts

My top 5 priorities

1. Cut Washington, Griffin, Jansen, Dainels, and Springs
2. Re sign Hall and Evans, let Kendall walk
3. Go after after a DT in FA, Suggs at OLB, and Jahari Evans at OG (RFA), and a CB like Ron Bartell from the Rams
4. Make J. Taylor take a pay cut if not show him the door
5. At 13 we should lok at both lines first, this all depends on what we do in FA. For example we're not going to draft an OT if we have Gross, we might trade down in the mid 20's and take Duke Robinson and get a few picks. On Defense we should be looking at 2 areas, OLB, DT. DE is not a pressing need (look at point 2) and DT and OLB depend on what we do in FA. In the third round I'd try to get a C to replace Rabach and in the later rounds look for quality depth on both lines.

Ahh, nice work bro.

... Gross is 29 and appears to be top of the list... i guess that's not the kind of "value" acquisition i had in mind being that our spending money will be pretty tight.

Actually the lists are a tad disappointing. Again Gross is no spring chicken and I think paying a truckload for him would be the same boneheaded strategy we employed before. But beyond him there doesn't appear to be much to choose from. My feeling is it's just a great year to draft ourselves an OT and one of the best four should be available (hopefully Monroe or Jason Smith).

OLB list isn't much better. Pretty sure i heard Suggs wants to stay in Baltimore and who he'll cost an arm and a leg. Leroy Hill sounds like an r-tard and he's a weakside LB anyway. What's the story w/ Michael Boley?

DE list is a surprise. EVANS IS THE HIGHEST LISTED END IN A 4-3 SYSTEM!!! I want to keep him but wanted an upgrade too. Maybe just not in the cards.

As for Gross I didn't realize he's 29, In that case I think that RT from Atlanta (Clabo) would be worth making an offer to RFA. He's 27, and would fill a need that we might not need to adress in the draft.

If we want a new kick returner, this might be a good option

Yeah. They really are. Unless your willing to break the bank on a top player, there isn't much of an upgrade out there at most positions. I think I would take a chance on Boley for the right price.

All I know is that to bring in one of those old ass tackles would be a big mistake! We should only address the O-Line through the draft, and anything else should be through FA. The last thing we need is another injured tackle in the midst of the season!

Man i don't know anything about him. I guess the million dollar question is will he play to prove something being he was benched in ATL (as it sounds like he has some talent). No doubt he'll be cheaper than the FAs above him.

I don't know THAT much about him but apparently he has some talent and he's only 26 with 4 years experience. It looks like he's good for at least 3 sacks a year and an INT. I'm not sure what happened to him last year, but if he needs a fire lit under his ass, I'm sure Blache could do it. It may have been new coaching, I'm not sure, but for the right price, he may be worth checking out.

We could always take a look at Winston justice.
