Re: Peter King says Browns and Skins discuss pick swap

How the hell would SC have 3-4 losses every season in the SEC and Big 12 or 1-2 in the Big 10 when there are undefeated teams that come out of those conferences every so often? You're either saying SC can't hang with the best teams from those conferences or you're saying you've never watched SC before. Point 1 - SC has destroyed every SEC team they've played in the past few seasons. Including a 23-0 stomping at Auburn's Jordan Hare stadium. Tigers were SI's preseason #1 and started veterans such as Ronnie Brown, Cadillac Williams, Karlos Dansby and two guys named Carlos Rogers and Jason Campbell. Did I mention that was QB Matt Leinart's first college start ever? And freshmen Reggie Bush and Lendale White's first game. Not mention a home and home against Arkansas that resulted in a combined score of 120-31. Mighty Trojans drop 50 against Arky in their own house, in a year the Razorbacks become SEC West champ! Point 2 - Big 12? I think someone forgot the 2004 national championship game in Miami between undefeated USC and undefeated Oklahoma. 38-10 by halftime and the OU offensive linemen were literally asking our defensive guys for mercy in the second quarter. I'll give you Texas' victory a few years ago... but even then, one of the best players in college history named Vince Young had to put together a crazy performance to barely scrape by in the last few seconds. He may has well have worn an "S" on his chest that day. Point 3 - Big 10? Do you even watch college football? SC has played in 5 out of the last 6 Rose Bowls, 4 of which have been against Big 10 teams. Ask Michigan, Penn State and Illinois if SC would have lost any Big 10 games that season. Just last season, what was the score between SC and Ohio State (the top Big 10 school at the time)? 35-3. In summary: If a team can go undefeated in their conference and subsequently proceeds to get walloped by a "sissy" Pac-10 school in the bowl game, there's a better than average chance that said "sissy" could go unscathed in that opponent's conference. And I wouldn't be quick to discredit the Pac-10 as a whole, either- 5-0 in bowl games last season. Every conference has its ups and downs- and the even the mighty SEC had a down season last year. Just like we have our USCs and Oregons, we also have our Washingtons and Stanfords. Just like the SEC has its Floridas and LSUs, it also has its Vanderbilts and Mississippi States. /rant. Now back to your regularly scheduled freaking out about Mark Sanchez... coming from an SC guy who agrees that we should not draft him. Last edited by itvnetop; 04-21-2009 at 05:16 AM. |

Re: Peter King says Browns and Skins discuss pick swap
Sanchez is a smoke screen, they really want Monroe at 5th. I say go get him. Take LB and depth at DE in the 5th and 7th rounds. Trade your 13th, 3rd round, and 6th round to get the 5th overall. 2010 is looking like an uncapped year with all our picks still available. Plug the gaps at DE (since our DE are one year contracts, and fill any other gaps in 2010. Remember, our Defense was 4th overall in the entire NFL last year, but we finished with a mediocre record. Our Offense didn't have what it needed (talent wise) to maintain down the stretch.

but I honestly see us going after Sanchez because I honestly believe DS, Cerrato and Zorn are not impressed with JC. I'm betting Zorn is the one sending the message to DS that he wants a better QB. I went back to my draft mags last night to see why he's so special and why we would even be interested. All of them say he's dead on accurate with all his throws. He's good at short, intermediate, and long passes. He knows where to drop the ball only so the WR can get it. His passes come out prior to the WR making his break for the ball. He played in a pro style of offense and he reads defenses well prior to the snap. The only knock everyone had on him was he only started 16 games. They felt he did not have much time leading a team. I can actually see us taking him and letting him learn the plays all yr and get tutored by Zorn for next yr unless JC really flubs up or Sanchez really out plays JC and gets to start this yr. |

Re: Peter King says Browns and Skins discuss pick swap
Here's what ProFootballWeekly had to say:
Positives: Very good foot quickness to slide in the pocket, avoid the rush and create some plays with his feet. Looks natural moving backward from under center. Does a very good job balancing his feet and throwing on the run. Can work through progressions and anticipates well where receivers will be. Played in a pro-style offense and has natural passing instincts. Has risen to the occasion vs. better competition (see Ohio State, Penn State) and performed well in the clutch. Has shown he can handle pressure. Has good arm strength to make all the throws. Good accuracy and ball placement. Plays with poise and understands the game. Fine decision maker. Shows maturity beyond his experience. Works hard, is well-respected and knows how to win a huddle. Negatives: Only a one-year starter. Not an overly impressive physical specimen and has a somewhat dumpy-looking body. Too often sprays the deep ball. Had an exceptional supporting cast with a talented offensive line that often provided a clean pocket and talented receivers who often were surrounded by nothing but grass. Showed he could be rattled by pressure in a loss to Oregon State. Too many balls come out with a loose wobble. Has been dinged up throughout his career and does not have a strong build to withstand contact. Summary: Does not enter the NFL with desirable experience and durability, and his character will require further examination based on a spotted history, but he has the foot quickness, agility, arm strength and intangibles to develop into a solid NFL starter. Funny they say he does not have great physical size, but he is like 6-2, 227lbs. |

"Funny they say he does not have great physical size, but he is like 6-2, 227lbs."
Actually everyones wrong here. Sanchez apparently is a good 6'2. I think scouts though just like his bulk. Height-Weight-Speed -2 - Adequate height with a strong build. When healthy, he displays good speed and agility for the position. (1 being the best 5 being the worst)

Re: Peter King says Browns and Skins discuss pick swap
Its all propoganda people. We're showing interest in Sanchez so the Jets will want to trade up, guaranteeing that someone high on our draft board (ie Orakpo, Orakpo, or Orakpo) will fall to us.

Re: Peter King says Browns and Skins discuss pick swap
I believe more owners attend workouts than you'd think. I don't exactly know what's going on. I hear a lot of Zorn and Snyder want/think/believe. Not as much about Cerrato. And nothing at all from Campbell (Scott Campbell) which is not that surprising considering he's the behind the scenes guy.

Re: Peter King says Browns and Skins discuss pick swap
Yeah I don't see what's wrong with an owner attending workouts, I would think that is pretty common.

Re: Peter King says Browns and Skins discuss pick swap
If we do this to address a real need by selecting Orakpo or the best OT available, then I'm fine with that. We are fine at QB - Campbell is a decent starter and we have quality backups, why can't Snyderatto see that???
