Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
D-
Loved the Orakpo pick, the rest is not good. Cody Glenn (OLB) and Robert Henson (OLB) better turn out to be good because there were several good OL left when we took these guys. I am very disappointed we could not take a Duke Robinson (taken 5th rd. pick 159) or Fenuki Tupou (taken 5th round, pick 159). Both were taken right after we took LB Cody Glenn. Cody Glenn? Really? |

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
C+ grade...Orakpo was a great twist of fortune, and depth at LB was needed but Orakpo can play LB also. O line should have been the 3rd round selection. We definitely didn't need another WR or TE right now. CB could have waited. We are set up well at that area for the year already. The front office has put all their eggs in the same basket, as for the O line, as last year. If we can't stay healthy, then we are in trouble and will have to shuffle players around which will mess up the chemistry of the Offense. We did acquire FA Williams as an O lineman but will it be enough? He can play G or T. Who will backup at C though? With many teams going to a 3-4 defense, the C will be getting beat up and we don't have an adequate backup on the depth charts. Most of my C+ grade is for the acquisition of Orakpo.

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
C-
Orakpo was a solid 1st round pick. My only concern with him is durability, but I think our DL will be really tough now. I don't like what we did on day two because I think we passed on some quality depth that was available again and again. I'm least upset about the Barnes and Mitchell picks. I like Barnes' physical play, and he looks like a guy who loves to play the game, but again, I don't like the injury history. He may be a bit gun shy too after tearing up his shoulder and ending his Terps' career on such a big hit. I like the Mitchell pick because it was late in the 7th and what can you really expect, but now, JC has a big target that he can overthrow and have no excuses. Cody Glenn is by far our worst pick. But maybe not, he might get me a good deal on tickets. |

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
This draft is a C+ at best and that is if Orakpo is a double digit sack guy and the corner turns into a potential starter.
Dan Snyder really needs to focus on business. |

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
I edited my initial post in this thread to give everyone a better idea of what exactly I'm asking the Warpath members to grade.

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
The last 4 picks were a complete embarrassment. There were some solid O-lineman available.

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
Well, maybe VC will be gone next year if this class and last year's don't produce.

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
I believe Brian Orakpo will be our best draft pick since Chris Cooley. (I'd say since Sean Taylor, but Cooley was drafted shortly after him. As a matter of fact, with the way Cooley keeps churning out awesome seasons, you can almost speculate that we picked potential Hall of Famers with consecutive picks).
The fact that we didn't blow our wad on Sanchez restored some faith in the FO with me. However I'd love to hear an explanation as to why we ignored the O-line.

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
You gotta wonder why so many teams, not just us, passed on OL like Duke Robinson. Orakpo and Barnes are great picks. Glenn is borderline. Henson and Williams I don't get really. Mitchell could be a steal, but I hope not because more than likely it would mean that he got playing time because Kelly couldn't stay healthy.
I'll give it a C, but I'm not one to grade off-seasons based only on draft.

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
See I don't blame Vinny because he is a puppet. He is protecting his job.
It is almost like Snyder wants Campbell to fail. They should have traded the last 4 picks this year for picks next year. The thing is that they will probably hit with Orakpo and the corner and then claim how successful the draft was. Who the f--- is Cody Glenn? |

But this thread isn't asking you to grade the off-season.

Re: Grade the Redskins Draft!
1- Brian Orakpo (DE) B+ I would've tried to trade down to get Mack and Eben Britton, but this has to be the best pick out our entire draft. If no one would've traded I would've taken Oher.
3- Kevin Barnes (CB) F- We drafted a CB last year (Tryon), we signed Hall, and we've Smoot, Westbrook, and Rogers already. 5- Cody Glenn (OLB) C+ Ok, we needed an OLB but I would've used the third to get a better OLB, not to mention all of the Ts right there for the picking. Jamon Meredith or Duke Robinson would've made more sense. 6- Robert Henson (OLB) F- Overkill. 7- Eddie Williams (TE/FB) D- So is he going to be a FB or a TE? Don't we already have Cooley, Davis and Yoder? Sellers is there? If we wanted a true FB than why not sign one. I would've taken Rashad Jennings. 7- Marko Mitchell (WR) F-- No need to explain this grade. If they did they're homework on this draft I can't see it, at least right now. Week eight will prove me right. |
