I say we just ride it out with what we have right now. And then act in the offseason. Short of acquiring a linebacker through free agency, I don't want us to add any defensive players, the focus should be entirely on offense-OL, RB, and possibly QB
Possibly QB? There's no way JC is our QB next year. No matter how bad our line gets, I am 95% sure our next HC will be Gruden or Shanahan. If thats the case, you know we're drafting a QB in round 1 and we may even trade up to get him.

If recent history has taught me anything, its that Snyder and Cerrato don't understand the purpose and necessity of a good offensive line. Unless Snyder hires a real team president and GM, we'll have a patched up OL next year that has no more depth than we did this year.

We certainly should not be spending any draft picks to acquire someone.

I think they saw enough last week to know that D'Anthony is not the answer. the plan is to move Heyer to LT put Big Mike Williams at RT, Dockery at LG and Montgomery at RG. kinda like patching up an old car.

Look at the bright side, if samuels is done for the year it frees up a spot to bring in another RB.....

It's not an if in my mind. He has played his last game in my opinion.

It's actually been quite incredible that he has played this long but Samuels was never going to be able to outrun the inevitable bone changes that occur with age. Coupled with his preexisting spinal stenosis; it was only a matter of time until he became symptomatic. Once these symptoms occur--his risk for complications, i.e. paralysis, jumps up even further. Therefore, I am sure his docs are strongly advising he hang it up now.

Re: If Chris Samuels does retire..?

While I love Chris Samuels and wish him nothing but the best (especially with his health in this case), maybe this is the kind of thing that needed to happen to see sweeping changes. The offensive line has totally come apart (Stephon Heyer at LT?? Mike Williams? Really?), and that falls squarely on Cerrato. He did nothing to bolster the O-line in the offseason, and it has blown up in his face. Gotta wonder how long he's going to keep getting a pass. He's getting ripped by players, the media, and the fans for his repeated blunders.

I know things were bad at the end of the brief Spurrier era, but I don't ever remember such loud cries for changes to our overall organizational structure since Danny bought the team.

Re: If Chris Samuels does retire..?

I hope Samuels retires with his health intact. He has been a great Skin since day one and I would like to see him go out that way.

Re: If Chris Samuels does retire..?

I know we've had a poll on this issue, but in terms of his position, he is certainly one of the top 3 left tackles to every play for us. (Jacoby/Lachey as 1-2 and Samuels as 3 easily).

Thanks for the years of excellent play. Retire in good health.

F' you front office for not having his replacement in the wings.

For me, it's been April ever since we lost to the lions. I wish Samuels all the best, and really hope this isn't career threatening, but from what I've heard, it is. He's one of the greatest redskin lineman of all time, and I wish him the best if it is farewell. If we put him on IR or Retired list, we need to get either Levi Jones or John Runyan, let them play the year out, then have our first pick be a Tackle.

While you say that, i think theres a pretty good chance vinny is on the line with San Diego offering our first and 2nd round picks in next years draft for Merriman and LT.

Re: If Chris Samuels does retire..?

Joe, good post. exactly how i feel. year after year, the skins trot these old guys out there, seemingly with no plan if someone gets injured. i guess now this kind of forces their hand. and just say no to Runyan. let some of the younger guys play. we have to find out as a team if any of them can play in this league. does anyone really know if Rinehart is NFL quality? and this is his 3rd season?

If he retires I will wish him the best, and remember him and Jansen as one of the best duo's we've had. It's a shame neither was able to hold the Lombardi up once.
