maybe this question can help, if you knew that taylor was going to be the next ronnie lott would you draft him at #5? I don't know any one who wouldn't, well this kid has lott like instinct's, with more physical ability, he may not turn out to be as good as lott, but he has the talent to possibly be better! |

but the thing is we don't know he will be that good and I'm sorry but Taylor has no where near the physical presence that Lott had. Taylor is a decent tackler but he's not the kind of safety, from what I saw during his days at miami, as someone who put fear into those coming over the middle like Lott did. how many times have we seen a player be awesome in college and so-so in the NFL? I'd be willing to bet more starting safeties of the past and present weren't drafted in the first round and I honestly don't see safety as our weakest point right now. Greg Williams has a proven past of getting the most out of his secondary and I think that with Bowens and Ohalete being young players with talent, they can still be molded into better players under his coaching. Sure I may be putting too much faith into our current players and coaching staff ,but I still firmly believe that the possibility of upgrading 2 or 3 positions, atleast depthwise for the time being, is better for the team than upgrading one position. If we upgrade the d-line, wouldn't that also help out the secondary and LBs? I also believe the best non-skill position player in this draft is Jake Grove(who we could get at #32) and I know I'm not putting my trust in Raymer to stay healthy the entire year.
So I'm not saying I'm against drafting Taylor, I just see us trading the pick away to garner the picks New England is offering as the better overall choice for the team to make. When you boil it down its either draft one potential probowler or draft 2 or 3 players who could be potential probowlers as well. I'll take the odds going with drafting 3 high seeded players over one. The only time I would even begin to think about taking one probowler over 2 or 3 is if the one player was a revolutionary player at their position like LT or Vick.
