Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
I have no idea what kind of WR Kelly is going to be , however he looked very fast after the catch at OU . Hope like hell he has a great deal of desire and dedication , IMO he has the ability .

They have made the team the last few years on promise and potential. They have not earned it. It is time to SHOW on the field that you belong. It is up to Kelly and Thomas to do it. Not the coaches, the scheme, the QB...all of the excuses are old. Step up boys. It is all on you. Last edited by Defensewins; 06-27-2010 at 04:15 PM. |

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
Isn't Kelly considered a 2nd stringer himself? Kelly has potential, if given the chance with the new staff I think he will succeed. !st year he was hurt and out of shape, last year he got better towards the end of the season.

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
I just don't think he's any good. I hope I'm wrong but everytime he's been given a chance he really doesn't get open. We'll see...

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
I haven't seen much from Kelly or Thomas since they were drafted. I had a wildly divergent opinion of the two as pro prospects since coming into the league, but their performances have been remarkably similar. Part of that is that they've had to compete with each other for playing time, because I feel that Moss had his touches scripted for him most of the Zorn era, and that Thomas, Kelly, and Randle El were sort of forced to work around him (and Cooley, when he was healthy).
It would have been nice if one had been much more prepared than the other and had taken all the reps and succeeded, but I think, legitimately, neither is ahead of the other. It's really Shanahan's first challenge is deciding what to do with these two. He hasn't been impressed by either in minicamp. It's too early to throw up his hands and quit on these guys, but they can't be allowed to compete with each other any longer. One or the other really needs to be pushed into the spotlight and allowed to fail. With Cooley and Davis both getting their touches -- remember Cooley is learning to play all receiving positions in the offense so the Redskins can choose to get the ball to him without having to change the gameplan -- this isn't going to be a three receiver offense. That's more or less why Randle El was cut. If Moss wins his spot in the starting lineup, one of the these two is going to have to learn to contribute on special teams for the rest of his rookie deal.

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
If Kelly doesn't play well we all know what dreaded two letters are coming. T.O. I bet all of my skins nick-nacks that if they Kelly does poorly and they cut him T.O. will get a nod to see what he can do. I'm still out to lunch as to whether it would be good.

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
Kelly, I think is going to do good. He is a big deep threat especially with McNabb. We need to trade for Santana's little brother and let him return kicks. Two Moss's incase one gets hurt. We don't need no two Westbrooks though.

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
with how lil shanny was hyping up Kelly, his size, his strenght, his speed during the offseason and saying he can see using him as he did Andre Johnson, I highly doubt they would cut him.
If so, just another player with high expectations and never developed under out staff (Jim zorns that is) |

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
I really hope Kelly does do well. I want to see our drafted guys make it. It just still blows me away with the grandpa moses WR signing. I may hate myself for saying this, but I would almost rather see TO get signed and see what he has. I mean he did put up 800+ yards in a very pedestrian Buffalo offense last year.

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
TO would love nothing better than to be in the DC media, going against Dallas and Philly 2x's at least a year, and I would welcome him here for a one year incentive laden contract.

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
I think of the group listed in the first post, Kelly makes it, Furrey does not.
I believe Kelly and Thomas will both be here long term. Thomas will become a star this year, Kelly will step up more than he has in the past and will contribute nicely.

Re: Malcolm Kelly possible cut?
I think Shanahan has not liked what he has seen on tape or on the field with the 2009 receivers. That is why he has invited so many veterans to training camp to create competition. Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas will be given every opportunity to break out this year. I think the coach is sending a clear message that these guys better step up to professional production or else they will be gone. I like the strategy. I don't care who makes the team. I don't want to see a high school passing game again.
