And on a couple of occasions here, he showed up at camp needing to work his way into good condition. With a full training camp, he was always ready to answer the bell in September.

It seems as if time and lack of attention to training details and regimens have caught up with Portis. He can still catch on somewhere if a team loses one of its key RBs AND IF Portis goes back to Florida and gets himself into shape.

However, his days as "the lead back" or as a "1200-yard back are over"...
