Re: And with the 6th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the redskins select...........
There's talk the Packers will use the franchise tag on Flynn and then trade him, probably not a bad idea.

Re: And with the 6th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the redskins select...........
OK, for the moment, let's assume that GB tags Flynn and then trades him to Cleveland for several draft picks. That would put us in position to land RGIII but I think we would be wise to still try to trade up to get ahead of Tampa.
With a new HC in Tampa, I wouldn't trust that they would not take RGIII. I feel that Cleveland wouldn't need to give up the #4 pick to get Flynn but hey would still like to recoup a pick or two by trading down with the Skins. The one problem I can foresee with this scenario is if Cleveland wants Richardson and they are afraid that Tampa might draft him. In that case, they would need to stay where they are. BTW, in my mind, Luck, Kalil, and Blackmon are locks to go in the top three picks. I think that RGIII is going to be taken 4th by somebody. I can't imagine RGIII going any lower than 6th. My "small miacle" draft scenario: 1. IND - Luck 2. STL - Kalil 3. MIN - Blackmon 4. CLE - Richardson 5. TAM - Claiborne 6. WAS - RGIII |

I don't think they have the cap room, and wouldn't that guarantee him the average of the top 5 paid QBs in the league? They still have to sign Finley. Stranger things have happened really so we'll have to wait and see.

Stop man, Cleveland isn't stupid. They'll succumb to the mock drafts, the media, the hype and draft RG3. They're more likely to stick with Colt, than sign/trade for Flynn.. Let's be realistic.
Washington has NO chance at drafting RG3 at 6. Absolutely NO chance.

Also, if they were to tag and then trade Flynn then couldn't they tag Finley after Flynn is traded? I don't know the answers to those questions. I'm simply asking anyone who does to educate me on the rules. |

Flynn is not Hasselback. Just like Colt McCoy is not Brett Favre.

They can only use the tag on one person per year. If they were to use it on Flynn, they wouldn't be able to use it on Finley. However, if they use it on Flynn, and trade him, they will take a cap hit, if I'm correct, even though he's not on the team. So you would be looking at Green Bay taking a decent cap hit for a guy not on the team, and still having to sign their free agents. I just don't see it happening. I"m not totally positive on the type of cap hit they'll take by franchising and trading. I do know teams can't franchise players with the sole purpose of trading them. I hate bleacher report, but this article is decent on the subject. 2012 NFL Free Agents: Packers Would Be Brilliant to Sign-and-Trade Matt Flynn | Bleacher Report This is partly why the Colts will not be able to pay Peyton the $28 million bonus AND trade him. The cap hit they'll take would make it a stupid decision.

Realistically, I have to admit that the only way for the Skins to ensure that they will get RGIII is to trade with St. Louis to get the #2 pick. If we accept that premise and we assume that the Skins want RGIII, then some questions remain: 1. Would St. Louis trade the pick? 2. Would Cleveland trade up to get RGIII? 3. Are there any other teams that would try to trade up for RGIII? 4. Would the Skins be willing and able to outbid all of the other teams? |

2. No. Why would they? They have needs everywhere, if a team goes up and drafts RG3, they likely get Blackmon... who may even be a BETTER talent. Cleveland has a new GM who likes his draft picks, they made a trade to get more draft picks. They will use the draft picks. 3. Miami. Jets might try, but their pick is too late for St. Lou or Minny. 4. It's weird because RG3 is actually the PERFECT QB for both Shanny's. RG3 can throw deep as well as any college QB Kyle will ever scout, perfect fit. RG3 can throw on the run as well as any college qb Mike will ever scout, perfect fit. It comes down to whether or not the Skins are stubborn in their "gathering picks" mentality, or just think there's a slight chance he drops.

Even if his combine/personal workouts are avg. I think RGIII is going to blow up in pre-draft hype; he's M. Vick w/brains! I won't be surprised if the debate furthers on RGIII v. LUck. I think there are other teams that would trade up & I think Cleveland holds the cards. If they really want him I don't see Allen & Shanny going too far in a bidding war. We have a couple extra picks in this draft but that's nothing to what Cleveland has. If Cleveland isn't interested in trading up, someone else will be this year's 2011 Atlanta; willing to give up 4-5 picks or so to get him. I would be really surprised if this regime is willing to do that. Unless of course, the Danny gets involved! ![]() |
