Re: Redskins agree to trade for No.2 overall pick in 2012 Draft
In my thinking... there are 3 unique factors that FORCED the Skins into 3-1st Round Picks:
A) The Browns - We just HAPPENED (our luck) to be competing with a team who had 2 1st round picks when we are trying to trade up. Bad coincidence... this drove the asking price up. B) Peyton Manning - Apparently, Peyton Manning was not going to be a backup/fallback option and our whole FO & Staff knew we NEEDED one of the "big 3 (Luck, RGII, Manning)"... this drove our buying point up. C) WR Position - We just happen to be shopping for a top-teir FA WR at the same time as this scenario is playing out. This means we had to make a deal early, before free agency starts. Hard to sell a WR on a team with no QB... The flip-side is, the cost goes up BECAUSE free agency hasn't started, with FA QB options landing with teams competing for the #2 pick. Ouch. 3 bad coincidences that just happened to hit us as this trade played out. I say... hey... they realized they had to do what they had to do to get their guy. I hate losing the 2nd round pick the most, though... but... hey... WE HAVE A REAL HOPE AT THE QB POSITION FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LOOOOOONNNNGGG TIME!!! LET'S CELEBRATE THAT, NOT WHAT THE FUTURE PICKS "MAY" HAVE BEEN!!
